Nick Keenan, Champlin Park
Staring down the barrel of a 17 point deficit to the defending state champions, Keenan and his squad responded. The Rebels rode a huge third quarter to help them knock off powerhouse Maple Grove.
Jay Anderson, Totino-Grace
It's been a tough week for defending state champions, and this time it was Simley who tripped up. Totino-Grace shutdown a Simley offense that averaged over 30 points per game a season ago en route to a 17-0 victory.
Bo Wasurick, Anoka
It's only taken Anoka 2 games to double its win total from just a season ago. On Friday, the Tornados ripped through the St Michael-Albertville secondary as quarterback Peyton Podany threw four touchdowns on the way to a big 34-19 victory
Aaron Moberg, Mounds View
The Mustangs have been known for defense under the Moberg Regime, and this unit does not seem to buck the trend. Mounds View took down rival White Bear Lake as timely turnovers forced by the Mustangs saw them come out victorious, 16-6.
Brad Beeskow, Forest Lake
A week ago, it was Beeskow's defense on display against Prior Lake, holding the Lakers to just one touchdown. On Friday, it was the Offense that shined. The Rangers went on the road and hung 35 points versus a strong East Ridge team to notch their first win of the season.
JJ Helget, Mankato West
In what could be a potential playoff game down the line, Helgets squad made the drive up north to face a tough Andover team. After an early deficit, It was the Scarlets who pulled away in the second half to get a huge Class 5A win.
Eric Davis, Mankato East
The Scarlets aren't the only team in the key city to make some noise as the Cougars entered the win column on friday as well. Davis’s crew found themselves in a 14-0 hole to Apple Valley after one quarter of play.
From then on though it was the Cougars who outscored the Eagles 42-7 to stay perfect on the season climbing to 2-0.
Mckenna Melville, Eagan
After getting swept in three sets versus Northfield to open up the season, the Wildcats have not lost since, possessing an impressive 7-1 record to date. Melville's squad ran the table at the Shakopee Invitational on Saturday going 4-0, highlighted by wins against Southwest Christian and East Ridge.
Dominic Duenas, Wayzata (boys soccer)
In what could be its toughest test all season, Wayzata knocked off the number one team in Class 3A Minneapolis Washburn in emphatic fashion, 5-1.
Duenas and the Trojans are destined to take the top spot in all of 3A this week as they boast a perfect 6-0 record.
Scott Zachmann, Blaine (girls soccer)
Defense and controlling the ball has been the theme of the season for Blaine. The Bengals got their biggest win of the season on Thursday as they handed Anoka its first loss, defeating them 1-0.
The Bengals have yet to allow a goal all season long, as they hold a 5-0 record.
