Orchard Lake St. Mary's is the top team after a win over Brother Rice

The Orchard Lake St. Mary's Prep Eaglets (9-1 jumped to the top spot in the Power 25 after a controlling 66-47 win over the Brother Rice Warriors (8-3) on Sunday.

Junior star Trey McKenney led the Eaglets with 16 points.

“Ever since I’ve been at St. Mary’s, we’ve never beaten them in the regular season, so [we] had to make a statement and let it be known that we’re the top dog in the state,” McKenney said.

No. 1 St. Mary’s Prep (9-1)

The Eaglets were able to beat Brother Rice 66-47 on Sunday at Oakland University. Junior five-star forward Trey McKenney had a team-high 16 points, and he also made his presence felt on defense. The Eaglets will get a chance to avenge their only loss of the season against U of D Jesuit on January 19.

No. 2 North Farmington (9-0)

North Farmington remained undefeated after beating Ferndale 54-41 on Tuesday. Fifty-four is the least amount of points the Raiders have scored in a game this season, with the previous low of 56 coming against Clarkston (56-39) on December 14. North Farmington had a game scheduled against University Prep on Saturday, but it was postponed due to weather. North Farmington visits Rochester Adams on January 18.

No. 3 East Lansing (9-0)

The Trojans defeated Lansing Waverly 69-62 on Thursday. It was the second Capital Area (Blue) League game of the season for East Lansing, the first coming in a 73-56 win over Everett on December 19. After a full week off from game action, East Lansing visits DeWitt on January 18.

No. 4 Cass Tech (9-0)

Cass Tech was able to beat Renaissance 88-85 on Friday. It was the Technician’s fourth win against Detroit Public School League opponents so far this season. Cass Tech had a game against Davison scheduled for Saturday, but it was postponed due to weather. Coming up, the Technicians will host Zeeland West on January 20.

No. 5 Grand Rapids Northview (7-0)

The Wildcats dominated Lowell en route to a 68-31 victory. Northview has now won its last two games by a combined 63 points. The Wildcats had two games postponed over the weekend, the first against Christian (1/12) and the second against Roseville (1/13). The Wildcats are set to visit Forest Hills Central on January 16.

No. 6 Detroit Catholic Central (8-3)

On Tuesday the Shamrocks fell short to St. Mary’s by a score of 70-56, but they got back in the win column with a 71-63 win over U of D Jesuit on Friday. Catholic Central has a chance to avenge its loss against De La Salle on January 16.

No. 7 U of D Jesuit (9-2)

The Cubs defeated De La Salle 64-55 on Tuesday before falling to Detroit Catholic Central 71-63 on Friday. U of D has two tough games coming up with Brother Rice coming to town on January 16 and a visit to St. Mary’s scheduled for January 19.

No. 8 Warren Lincoln (7-2)

The Abes were able to beat Grosse Pointe North 60-52 on Wednesday. It was Lincoln’s first time scoring 60 points since its 78-35 win over Romeo on December 19. The Abes had a game scheduled against New Haven on Friday, but it was postponed due to weather. Port Huron Northern will host the Abes next on January 16.

No. 9 Grand Rapids Christian (7-0)

Christian hasn’t played since beating Greenville 70-57 on January 4, as its game against Northview was postponed on Friday. The Eagles will play East Grand Rapids on January 16.

No. 10 De La Salle (8-3)

De La Salle lost to U of D on Tuesday by a score of 64-55. The Pilots were able to bounce back for a 66-56 win over Heritage on Thursday, and it was their first time scoring over 60 points since the day before new years eve. De La Salle is scheduled to play Detroit Catholic Central next on January 16.

No. 11 Dearborn (9-0)

The Pioneers were able to beat Stevenson on Tuesday (80-51) and Fordson on Friday (67-46) to remain undefeated. Dearborn is scheduled to play Churchill next on January 16.

No. 12 Muskegon (6-0)

Muskegon defeated Mona Shores 38-28 in a low-scoring game on Tuesday. The Big Reds had a game scheduled against Edison Academy on Saturday, but it was postponed due to weather. Muskegon is set to play Zeeland East next on January 16.

No. 13 East Kentwood (5-2)

The Falcons were able to demolish Jenison by a score of 73-33 on Tuesday. East Kentwood was set to play Hudsonville on Friday, but the game was postponed. The Falcons will visit Grandville next on January 16.

No. 14 Brother Rice (8-3)

The Warriors dropped their third game in a row to St. Mary’s by a score of 66-47 Sunday at Oakland University. Sophomore guard Elijah Williams recorded a game-high 19 points, but no other Warrior was able to get anything going offensively. Brother Rice will try to steer the ship back in the right direction when it visits U of D on January 16.

No. 15 Heritage (7-1)

Heritage lost its first game of the season to De La Salle 66-56 on Thursday. It was the first time the Hawks were held under 60 points this season. Heritage has three road games in a row coming up with Grand Blanc being the first destination set for January 16.

No. 16 Ann Arbor Huron (7-1)

The River Rats dominated Chelsea en route to a 72-48 win on Wednesday. Rival Ann Arbor Pioneer was supposed to come to the River Rat side of town on Friday, but the game was postponed due to weather. It has since been rescheduled for January 17.

No. 17 Saline (8-1)

The Hornets demolished Dexter 67-44 on Tuesday. Saline had a game set against Ypsilanti Lincoln (1/12), but weather forced it to be postponed. Saline is set to visit Chelsea next on January 16.

No. 18 Utica (10-0)

The Chieftains were able to beat Cousino 59-31 on Tuesday. 31 is the least amount of points Utica has allowed in a game this season. Utica is set to host Fraser on January 16.

No. 19 Hudsonville (7-2)

Hudsonville defeated Caledonia 68-60 on Tuesday. The Eagles were supposed to play East Kentwood on Friday, but the game was postponed due to weather. Hudsonville will visit Rockford next on January 16.

No. 20 Flint Powers (9-1)

Powers was able to beat Mt. Pleasant 74-55 on Tuesday. The Chargers have now scored over 70 points in back-to-back games, and they’ll hope to keep the streak going when they visit Bridgeport on January 16.

No. 21 Lansing Waverly (8-3)

The Warriors beat Jackson 68-47 on Tuesday before falling to East Lansing on Thursday by a score of 69-62. Waverly has scored over 60 points in five straight games, and it will look to get some momentum back when it visits Grand Ledge on January 18.

No. 22 Summit Academy North (9-1)

Summit Academy North beat Old Redford Academy on Tuesday (1/9) and Michigan Collegiate on Friday (1/12). Summit has scored over 70 points in four straight games, and it will host University Prep next on January 16.

No. 23 West Bloomfield (7-5)

The Lakers beat Rochester Adams on Tuesday (60-49) and Clarkston on Friday (58-48). West Bloomfield was set to play Harper Woods on Saturday, but the game was postponed due to weather. The Lakers will visit Groves next on January 18.

No. 24 Davison (5-3)

Davison hasn’t played since losing to Detroit Catholic Central on January 6 by a score of 80-65. The Cardinals had two games postponed due to weather over the weekend, one against Arthur Hill (1/12) and one against Cass Tech (1/13). Davison is set to host Lapeer next on January 19.

No. 25 Whitehall (10-0)

The Vikings were able to dominate Oakridge en route to a 91-54 win on Thursday. 91 is the most points Whitehall has scored in a game this season, with the previous high being 77 against Manistee. Whitehall is set to host Fremont next on January 16.
