The Michigan high school football 2023 season is over, and thousands of athletes across the state competed on the gridiron.

SBLive Michigan has named a first and second team all-state offense with the goal of highlighting the top performers this season. The teams are built regardless of division to encompass 11 standout players.

Many of the following athletes will be included in SBLive's Michigan Offensive Player of the Year poll to be posted later this week.

The first and second team all-state defense will be posted on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

FIRST TEAM ALL-STATE

Quarterback

Bryce Underwood — Belleville

Underwood had another spectacular year behind center, leading Belleville to its second straight undefeated regular season. Underwood is known as a dual-threat, but he especially had success with his arm in 2023.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and over 200 pounds, Underwood (uncommitted) is the number one recruit in the class of 2025.

Running Back

Jeremiah Beasley — Belleville

Beasley was once again a crucial part of the high powered Belleville offense. Beasley, a Michigan commit, is a powerful runner with no problem going between the tackles.

He also has a track background, so he can usually pull away from defenders in a foot race. At 6-foot-1 and over 200 pounds, Beasley is stout in pass protection as well.

AJ Martel — Mason

Martel, an uncommitted senior, broke the career rushing record at Mason this season. Mason had one of the best offenses in the state in 2023, and Martel was a major contributor.

A smaller back, Martel has a combination of quickness and toughness allowing him to find success both running and catching the ball.

Wide Receiver

Braylon Isom — Heritage

Isom will be in Miami (OH) next fall, and he’s leaving behind one of the best careers for a wide receiver in the history of Michigan high school football.

Isom’s senior season consisted of 82 catches, 1,611 yards and 26 touchdowns. Isom broke the state record for career receiving yards (3,830) and receiving touchdowns (52) as well. At 6-foot-3, Isom should have little problem translating his game to the next level.

Nick Marsh — River Rouge

A senior committed to Michigan State, Marsh has been one of the most notable receivers in Michigan since his sophomore season. Marsh has great speed for his size (6-foot-3, 200) and has the ability to high point the ball over defensive backs, hence his catchphrase “get Marshed.”

Marsh was occasionally used in the running game too, showing his versatility.

Tight End

Dylan Mesman — Saline

Saline had a phenomenal 2023 season, and Mesman (Louisville commit) was a big reason why. Mesman is quick for his 6-foot-5 frame, and it makes him tough to handle running after the catch. Not only is Mesman a great receiver, but he’s an effective blocker as well.

Offensive Live

Andrew (AJ) Dennis — Mt. Pleasant

Dennis, a senior, is expected to play an interior spot of the offensive line at the next level, but he has experience at multiple positions. At 6-foot-5 and close to 300 pounds, Dennis is athletic with a high motor, and it shows on tape. Dennis committed to the University of Illinois on Monday.

Nathaniel Johnson — Belleville

Johnson, an uncommitted senior, has been a staple on the Belleville offensive line for the entirety of its dominant run. Mostly playing left tackle, Johnson has shown the ability to be an anchor on the blindside of the quarterback in pass protection, but he’s also athletic enough to be effective in the run game.

Gabe VanSickle —Coopersville

VanSickle, a 6-foot-5 300 pound senior, recently decommitted from Northwestern. VanSickle was dominant for Coopersville at the tackle position, and he has the size to continue his dominance at the next level. In addition to his size, VanSickle can run a sub five second (4.97) 40-yard dash, according to his Hudl page.

Idrys Cotton — Plymouth

Cotton was a force in his senior year, and he’ll be headed to Northwestern next fall. The 6-foot-4 290 pound tackle displayed both strength and quickness, which allowed him to handle people at the line of scrimmage and at the second level. Cotton led the way for nearly all of Plymouth’s explosive offensive plays, and for good reason.

Aiden Pastoriza — Lumen Christi

Pastoriza is one of the most physically imposing players in the state. A senior committed to Cincinnati, Pastoriza checks in at 6-foot-7. He played mostly tackle, and he has some of the common physical attributes you’ll see from a professional offensive tackle.

Specialists

K - George Sanchez - Cass Tech

Sanchez had a great junior season for the Technicians. Sanchez went 30-for-31 on extra points, and one was blocked. He also made multiple field goals from 40 yards or further.

P - Kolten Bartels - Richmond

Bartels accumulated over 1,300 yards worth of punts this season. Bartels had 15 out of his 34 punts land inside the 20.

KR - Desman Stephens - Clarkston

Stephens was electric returning kicks for the Wolves this season. Stephens returned 11 kicks for 268 yards and a touchdown.

PR - Corey Sadler Jr. - Cass Tech

Sadler was a constant threat when returning punts this season. He wasn’t always given a chance when he lined up to return a punt, but when he was, he usually made them pay.
