We’ve picked out eight sophomore football players in Massachusetts that have stood out this season.

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Massachusetts and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. 

It’s no surprise that sophomores are showing out in the Green Colony State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Massachusetts. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing sophomore high school football player in Massachusetts.

Here are the nominations:

Michael Wildfire, QB, Cohasset: The sophomore quarterback has had a strong season, completing 101-of-163 passes for 1,696 yards and 17 touchdowns. 

Osiris Lopez, QB, Leominster: Lopez has been one of the top signal callers this season, regardless of class. The Blue Devils’ quarterback has thrown for 1,328 yards and 16 touchdowns this fall. 

Owen Mordas, QB, Bishop Feehan: One of the top sophomore quarterbacks when it comes to taking care of the football is Mordas. The Shamrocks starter has thrown for 1,052 yards, 10 touchdowns and a mere three interceptions. 

Dante Berger, RB, Andover: The running back has been a nice contributor out of the backfield for the Golden Warriors. Berger has rushed for 584 yards on 89 carries and scored six touchdowns. Berger had made four interceptions on defense. 

Zahir Mitchell, WR, Lynnfield: The fleet footed wide receiver has hauled in 23 passes for 366 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Pioneers. 

Alain Abaya, DT, Clinton: Abaya lines up at defensive tackle and has done a solid job up front. The sophomore has tallied 50 tackles and one sack for the Gaels. 

Tegan Zakrzewski, LB, Carver: The Crusaders’ linebacker has played well in the front seven this fall. Zakrzewski has totaled 40 tackles and eight for a loss. 

Mav Player, DB, Scituate: The defensive back has totaled six interceptions this season for the Sailors.
