Abbeville downs Pearl River in first round of Louisiana Division II non-select playoffs

Wildcats overcome early deficit to end Rebels' season with 34-20 win

Things didn't start too well for Abbeville in its Division II non-select playoff opener Friday.

The Wildcats gave up an early touchdown to quickly fall behind Pearl River, 6-0. But they bounced back in a big way, scoring 28 unanswered points to end the first half and used that surge to go on to a 34-20 win at Abbeville's field.

Abbeville (9-2), the No. 13 seed in the playoffs, will advance to next week's second round. The Wildcats now take on No. 4 seed Lutcher, the defending Division II non-select champion.

In the Wildcats' win Friday, Justin Montgomery carried the ball 22 times for 146 yards and two TDs. Also for Abbeville, Ta'Zavian Andrews had 120 yards on 12 carries and a pair of TDs.
