We’ve picked out 10 freshmen football players in Kentucky that have stood out this season.

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Kentucky and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in the Bluegrass State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Kentucky. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school football player in Kentucky.

Here are the nominations:

Miles Reding, QB, Todd County Central: Reding has been one of the top freshman passers this season, completing 77-of-182 passes for 916 yards and 11 touchdowns. 

Quinton Grace, RB, Todd County Central: Grace lines up next to Reding to display a 1-2 freshmen tandem in the backfield for Todd County. The running back has rushed for 581 yards on 98 carries and scored six touchdowns. 

Gunner Holbrook, QB, Letcher County Central: The Cougars’ quarterback has been solid this fall, as Holbrook has completed 35-of-63 passes for 512 yards and six touchdowns. 

Ulysses Porter, RB, Holy Cross: Porter has been the state’s top freshman runner at running back, with the tailback rushing for 933 yards on 107 attempts and scoring 13 touchdowns. 

Littello Johnson, DL, Holy Cross: The 6-foot-2, 304-pound freshman defensive tackle has been a run stuffer for Holy Cross. Johnson has totaled 38 tackles, eight for loss and two sacks. 

Tyler Fryman, WR, Beechwood: Fryman has exploded onto the scene for the Tigers as the wide receiver has tallied 30 catches for 682 yards and six touchdowns. 

Amontae Lowe, WR, Newport: The Wildcats wide receiver has been stellar so far this season, with Lowe catching 22 receptions for 342 yards and four touchdowns. 

Sean Hurry, LB, Newport: The linebacker has put together an impressive freshman campaign at backer, tallying 63 tackles, 12 for a loss and five sacks. 

Hunter Pingleton, LB, Rockcastle County: Pingleton has been a tackling machine this season for the Rockets as the linebacker has racked up 73 tackles, nine for a loss and two sacks. 

Eli Caudill, DB, Belfry: The defensive back has been one of the top freshman cornerbacks, totaling 32 tackles and two interceptions.
