Here are the candidates for the Kentucky high school Athlete of the Week for Sept. 26-Oct. 2 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.
Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Brady Atwell, Owensboro Catholic football
The sophomore quarterback makes our list of nominees for the second week in a row after he completed 19 of 27 passes for 440 yards and five touchdowns in the Aces’ 47-37 win over Todd County Central. Atwell also led the team in rushing with 41 yards.
Sydney Bietz, Woodford County volleyball
The varsity team captain not only led Woodford County in kills during its wins over Spencer County and Madison Central last week, she led the team in digs as well. Bietz logged 20 kills and nine digs against Spencer County followed by 13 kills and 29 digs against Madison Central. She leads the team in kills and is second in digs on the season.
Mitchell Berger, Beechwood football
Berger carried the ball 22 times for 234 yards and five touchdowns during Beechwood’s 37-14 win over Dixie Heights. Add in 27 yards as a receiver, and Berger accounted for 251 of the Tigers’ 403 yards of total offense.
Cutter Boley, Lexington Christian football
Boley threw for 380 yards and five touchdowns plus added a score on the ground as LCA beat Washington County 56-21 on Friday.
Carson Class, Highlands football
Class caught seven passes for 137 yards and four touchdowns during Highlands’ 55-0 rout of Conner on Friday, helping the Bluebirds to their fifth win in a row.
Sophie Decker, Simon Kenton girls soccer
Decker netted four goals and had an assist in Simon Kenton’s 10-0 win over Collins on Friday. That came two days after she dished a pair of assists in the Lady Pioneers’ 7-2 loss to Highlands.
Kade Elam, Corbin football
The sophomore quarterback completed 13 of 19 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown on Friday. He also rushed for 25 yards and the game-winning score late in the fourth quarter as the Redhounds knocked off Class 6A foe Simon Kenton on the road.
Kara Gipson, South Warren volleyball
The Lady Spartans have played six matches in the past 10 days, and during that span Gipson logged 56 kills and 20 aces.
Chandler Godby, Pulaski County football
Godby caught seven passes for 211 yards and five touchdowns in Pulaski County’s 71-point offensive explosion against South Laurel on Friday.
Kenyon Goodin, Collins football
As usual, Goodin was productive both as a passer and runner for the Titans. He threw for 201 yards and a score and carried the ball for 88 yards and another three touchdowns in Collins’ 41-21 win over Whitley County.
Charlee Hale, Letcher County Central volleyball
Hale logged 14 kills and 30 digs in the Lady Cougars’ 3-1 match win at June Buchanan on Wednesday.
Bennie Hill, Scott football
Hill rushed for a ridiculous 328 yards and all six of the team’s touchdowns on 32 carries as Scott beat Harrison County 54-35 on Friday.
Javen Huddleston, Bowling Green football
The junior running back carried the ball 17 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns and also turned three receptions into 119 yards and another score on Friday. His one-yard scoring plunge with 34 seconds left gave the Purples the lead for good in their 28-24 win over South Warren.
Amelia Jones, Manual girls soccer
The Crimsons went 2-0 last week with wins over Atherton and Ryle, thanks in large part to Jones, who scored three goals and had an assist across the two games.
Brady Klink, Anderson County football
Klink carried the Bearcat offense with 26 carries for 206 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s 44-19 win over Jeffersontown on Friday.
Jada Knight, Warren East volleyball
Warren East played eight matches last week, with six of them coming in the Quad State tournament at McCracken County, and Knight led team with 181 assists during that span. She also logged 70 digs, 18 serving aces and 17 kills. The Lady Raiders came out victorious in six of the eight matches.
Owen Leen, Covington Catholic football
Leen rushed 16 times for 221 yards and three touchdowns as the Colonels cruised past Boone County 43-0.
Sophie Lester, Woodford County girls golf
Lester shot a team-best 77 at the Region 9 championship to earn a berth to the state golf tournament, which will be played this week at Bowling Green Country Club.
Mykel Malone, Fern Creek football
Malone turned 17 carries into 217 yards and six touchdowns as the Tigers beat DeSales 43-13. The junior’s six scores represented a new school record for the most rushing touchdowns in a single game by a Fern Creek player.
Steve Partin, Knox Central football
The Panthers won a 62-61 shootout over Bourbon County in perhaps the wildest game of Week 7 in Kentucky high school football. Partin, their junior quarterback, was the main reason why. Partin rushed for 316 yards (on a whopping 52 carries) and six touchdowns. He also threw for a touchdown.
Russ Osborne, Shelby Valley football
Osborne completed 23 of 27 pass attempts for 396 yards and two touchdowns as Shelby Vallye put up 68 points in a win over Prestonsburg. The junior added another 49 yards and a score as a rusher for good measure.
Will Sheets, Covington Catholic cross country
Sheets broke the school record in the 5k at the Nike XC Town Twilight Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana last week. The sophomore ran a 15:44 to shatter his personal best and break the Covington Catholic record by 18 seconds.
Quintel Thomas, Eastern football
The senior running back exploded for 246 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries during Eastern’s 42-8 win over Oldham County.
Kiera Tynes, McCracken County girls soccer
A starting midfielder as a freshman, Tynes scored a combined five goals across the Mustangs’ two wins at the Bruin Classic last weekend. She netted three goals in a 6-1 victory over Shelby County and two more in a 5-2 win over North Hardin.
Jordauyn White, Paducah-Tilghman football
White rushed for 166 yards and four touchdowns and added another 42 yards as a receiver during the Blue Tornado’s 43-10 win over Trigg County.
