By Kevin Messenger

The Power 25 has an abbreviated schedule this week with all Indiana 5A and 6A schools on a bye prior to their sectional brackets beginning on Oct. 28.

Here’s a look at the Week 10 results for the teams in the SBLive Indiana Power 25.

1. Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers) (9-0) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. Homestead (5-4)

2. Brownsburg (8-1) is idle until Oct. 28 at No. 9 Ben Davis (6-3)

3. Cathedral (Indianapolis) (7-1) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. Lawrence North (4-5)

4. Center Grove (Greenwood) (7-2) is idle until Oct. 28 at Franklin Central (3-6)

5. New Palestine (10-0) defeated Mt. Vernon 35-24

The Dragons were the only Power 25 Top 10 team active this week and they got a little scare from the defending 4A champion Marauders. Trailing for the first time this season, New Pal needed both interceptions and strong all-around defensive play from Blaine Nunnally as Mt. Vernon led 24-21 through three quarters. Greyson Thomas and Danny Tippit both scored rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to push the Dragons into next week’s sectional semis against Greenfield-Central.

6. Carroll (Fort Wayne) (9-0) is idle until Oct. 28 at No. 19 Penn (7-2)

7. Carmel (6-3) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. No. 8 Westfield (6-3)

8. Westfield (6-3) is idle until Oct. 28 at No. 7 Carmel (6-3)

9. Ben Davis (6-3) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. No. 2 Brownsburg (8-1)

10. Crown Point (9-0) is idle until Oct. 28 at Portage (2-7)

Vote now: Who should be SBLive's Indiana High School Athlete of the Week (Oct. 10-15)?

11. Roncalli (9-1) defeated Indianapolis Shortridge 57-0

The Royals coasted over Shortridge on Friday, earning a semifinal matchup next week against Crispus Attucks (6-3) which beat Indianapolis Washington 58-6. RB Luke Hansen did his usual early damage, scoring three first-half touchdowns to go with Arik Moyers’ two throwing TDs. Roncalli led 43-0 at halftime.

12. NorthWood (10-0) defeated South Bend Washington 48-14

The Panthers have run the table with at least 40 points weekly since Week 3, continuing their trend in Friday’s sectional win. NorthWood got on the board quickly with a 57-yard pass from Owen Roeder to Nitareon Tuggle. The Panthers scored three TDs in each of the first and second quarters to lead 42-0 at intermission. They will return to South Bend next week, taking on South Bend St. Joseph (4-6) in a sectional semifinal.

13. East Central (St. Leon) (8-2) defeated Edgewood 53-0

The Trojans needed no edging in getting past Edgewood on Friday. East Central scored four touchdowns in the opening period to lead 28-0, and never looked back. East Central matches up with Silver Creek (5-5) next week.

14. Fishers (6-3) is idle until Oct. 28 at Fort Wayne Northrop (1-8)

15. Fort Wayne Snider (8-1) is idle until Oct. 28 at Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (6-3)

16. Evansville Reitz (10-0) defeated Evansville Central 49-0

Unbeaten Reitz moved to 10-0 while moving onward in the state tournament with a 49-0 drubbing of the winless Bears. Reitz advances to meet Boonville (8-3) next week. The Pioneers could present a good matchup against the Panthers after finishing second in the Pocket Conference to No. 22 Gibson Southern.

17. West Lafayette (10-0) defeated Twin Lakes 50-7

The Red Devils ripped past Twin Lakes to earn a date with Calumet New Tech (9-1) in next week’s semifinal round. Time and again, West Lafayette used its top-ranked 3A defense to stifle Twin Lakes and allow the offense to pile on the points. Dawson Martin ran for two scores and Max Mullis threw for two and ran for one as the Red Devils took another step towards a 3A championship.

18. Whiteland (8-1) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. Terre Haute North (2-7)

19. Penn (7-2) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. No. 6 Fort Wayne Carroll (9-0)

20. Merrillville (7-2) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. Munster (3-6)

21. Mishawaka (8-1) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. South Bend Adams (1-8)

22. Gibson Southern (10-0) defeated Vincennes Lincoln 63-42

The 3A powerhouse Titans have won 21 straight games and have their sights squarely upon another state championship. Tanner Boyd passed for 220 yards and two scores and Devan Roberts ran for 205 yards and two scores. They’ll draw another unbeaten team, Owen Valley (10-0), in next week’s semifinal round.

23. Bishop Chatard (6-4) defeated Northwestern 47-19

Bishop Chatard answered the state tournament bell as usual, opening sectional play with a resounding win over Northwestern. The Tigers pulled within 13-7 late in the first quarter, but it was all Trojans the rest of the way. Drew VanVleet through five touchdown passes before halftime and the Trojans advanced to meet Hamilton Heights (8-2) in next week’s sectional semi.

24. Lafayette Jeff (7-2) is idle until Oct. 28 vs. Lake Central (4-5)

25. Kokomo (9-1) defeated Frankfort 70-6

Possibly motivated by last week’s narrow defeat against Lafayette Jeff, the Wildkats rolled up 70 points against the Hot Dogs. It was the most points scored by a Kokomo team in over a decade – 70-0 vs. New Castle in September 2010. Kokomo draws Western (6-4) in next week’s sectional semi.
