Kenwood Academy defensive end Marquise Lightfoot commits to Miami

Four-star prospect announces he's headed to the Hurricanes

One of the top prospects in Chicago is headed to Miami.

Kenwood Academy's Marquise Lightfoot, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end, announced on Monday he is committing to the University of Miami.

Lightfoot, the No. 3 prospect in Illinois in the Class of 2024 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, was a highly sought after prospect who attracted offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Texas and many others. 

On June 12, he announced a top six of Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Miami and Illinois. 

On Monday, he announced he wants to be a Hurricane.

Lightfoot, who announced his decision on 247Sports' YouTube channel, said Miami showed him he was a good fit with the program. 

"I knew that was a place I wanted to be," he said.

As a junior, Lightfoot recorded a team-high 122 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, nine sacks and three fumble recoveries for the Broncos.

Lightfoot was the highest-ranked uncommitted prospect remaining in Illinois after the commitment of St. Ignatius defensive tackle Justin Scott to Ohio State on Sunday

As it currently stands, the top 10 committed prospects in Illinois in the Class of 2024, as ranked in the 247Sports Composite, are now committed to 10 different schools: Scott (Ohio State), Glenbard South wide receiver Cam Williams (Notre Dame), Lightfoot (Miami), Marian Central Catholic tight end Christian Bentancur (Clemson), Jacobs tight end Grant Stec (Wisconsin), Kenwood wide receiver I'Marion Stewart (Michigan), IC Catholic tight end Eric Karner (Texas A&M), Marian Catholic cornerback Austin Alexander (Kansas), Naperville North athlete Luke Williams (Purdue) and Morgan Park athlete Tysean Griffin (Illinois).
