SBLive national high school girls volleyball rankings (10/3/2023)

Hamilton Southeastern (Indiana) continues its reign at No. 1

The Hamilton Southeastern Royals are looking mightier by the day as the 2023 regular season comes to an end.

HSE (Fishers, Indiana) last week extended its incredible win streak to 60 matches by sweeping three more opponents, running its record to 26-0 with one week to go before the postseason. The defending Class 4A state champs and Indiana’s undisputed No. 1 team defeated Noblesville, Franklin Community, and Center Grove (23-4) of Greenwood by 3-0 scores. HSE visits Franklin Central of Indianapolis on Thursday to conclude the regular season.

1. Hamilton Southeastern

The Royals last week extended their shutout streak to 12 with three more sweeps. They have dropped only two sets all season. Senior outside hitter Lauren Harden, a Florida commit, has 291 kills and recently passed more than 1,000 for her career, breaking the school record. Fellow outside hitter Lindsey Mangelson, a junior and Mississippi State commit, has 264 kills. Junior setter Ava Hunter has 48 aces and 388 assists, middle hitter Breonna Goss has 62 blocks, Libero Sophie Ledbetter has 320 digs, and setter Macy Hinshaw has 486 assists for the Royals.

2. Mater Dei

(Santa Ana, California)

Last week: 2

The Monarchs last week continued their torrid play, winning two more matches to extend their streak to 12. They swept Santa Margarita of Rancho Santa and Rosary Academy of Fullerton by 3-0 scores. The Monarchs have three regular-season games remaining. Leading the way are Isabel Clark, Cymarah Gordon, Layli Ostovar, Emma Kingston, Malyssa Cawa, Tessa Hurley and Julia Kakkis.

3. Mira Costa

(Manhattan Beach, California)

Last week: 3

The Mustangs last week held off Redondo (Beach) Union, 3-2, and then swept Peninsula of Rolling Hills Estates, 3-0. They visit Palos Verdes on Thursday. Audrey Flanagan, Bryn Shankle, Taylor Deckert, and Charlie Fuerbringer lead Mira Costa.

4. Grand Oaks

(Spring, Texas)

(36-1)

Last week: 4

The Grizzlies last week extended their win streak to 10 with 3-0 sweeps of College Park of The Woodlands, and Caney Creek of Conroe. They take on Willis and The Woodlands (26-13) this week. Leading the way are Halle Thompson, Jaela Auguste, Cali Reece, Audrey Terry, and Samara Coleman.

5. Papillion La Vista South

(Papillion, Nebraska)

(25-0)

Last week: 6

The two-time defending Class A state champ Titans were off last week and resume play Thursday at Burke before playing Skutt Catholic of Omaha on Saturday. Ranked No. 1 in Wisconsin, the Titans are led by South Dakota commit/senior outside hitter Lauren Medeck, Lyric Judson, Kami Dyrstad, Charlee Solomon, and Morgan Bode.

6. Divine Savior Holy Angels

(Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

Last week: 5

The defending WIAA Division 1 state champ last week had its 45-match win streak dating to last season snapped in the Asics Challenge, falling to host Mother McAuley (Chicago), 2-1. DSHA bounced back to beat Assumption (Louisville), 2-0, to finish 4-1 in the 24-team tournament. DSHA is led by Sophia Wendlick, Maddie Brown, Olivia Durst, and Jordan Czajkowski.

7. Cathedral Catholic

(San Diego, California)

(23-3)

Last week: 7

The defending national champion Dons last swept La Jolla, Point Loma of San Diego, and University City of San Diego by 3-0 scores. They travel to take on Texas power Prestonwood Christian (26-4) on Friday. Senior middle blocker Jenna Hanes leads the Dons in three statistical categories.

8. Notre Dame Academy

(Park Hills, Kentucky)

Last week: 10

The Pandas last week went 6-2, including a second-place finish in the Asics Challenge in Chicago. Two days prior, they fell to Chicago power Marist, 2-1, in a regular-season match. NDA is led by Ava Tilden, Audrey Dyas, Julia Grace, Ella Goetz, and Lauren Ott.

9. Cornerstone Christian

(San Antonio, Texas)

(34-5)

Last week: 8

The Warriors, who play an independent schedule, edged past Davenport of San Antonio, 3-2, before going 5-2 and finishing second in the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions (TOC) Southwest in Phoenix. CCS was stunned by Horizon (Scottsdale, Ariz.), 2-0, in pool play before fighting back on the final day, losing to St. Francis (Mountain View, Calif.), 2-1, in the championship match. The Warriors are off this week. Megan Fitch, Elly Stewart, Olivia Parker, Maria Avendano, and Kaia Thiele lead CCS, which plays one of the toughest schedules in the nation.

10. Wayzata

(Plymouth, Minnesota)

(19-0)

Last week: 11

The three-time defending Class 4A state champ Trojans battled past Champlin Park, 3-1, and swept Eden Prairie, 3-0, to remain undefeated. They visit St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday. Leading the way are Olivia Swenson, Katie Kelzenburg, Bianca Nistor, Stella Swenson, and Avery Jesewitz.

11. McKinney Boyd

(McKinney, Texas)

(23-1)

Last week: 12

The Broncos last week stretched their win streak to 13 with a 3-0 sweep of Rock Hill (Frisco) and 3-1 victory against Braswell (Little Elm). They travel to Allen on Tuesday and host McKinney on Friday. Leading the Broncos are Ale Romo, Sasha Purdin, Keira Bose, Kali Vanderhoof, Carson Eickenloff, and Sara Quigley.

12. Bob Jones

(Madison, Alabama)

(36-1)

Last week: 13

The defending Class 7A state runner-up swept Huntsville and James Clemens of Madison by 3-0 scores to get back on track after losing to Mountain Brook of Birmingham the previous weekend. Leading the Patriots are Kennedy Vaughn, Eliza Tyrrell, Meg Jarrett, Riley Lovell, and Kalison Beigh.

13. Flint Hill

(Oakton, Virginia)

(16-2)

Last week: 14

The defending Division I Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) state champ extended its win streak to 15 by sweeping Forest Park of Woodbridge, Episcopal of Alexandria, and Collegiate of Richmond by 3-0 scores. The Huskies visit Georgetown Visitation Prep of Washington, D.C., on Tuesday and then play in a tournament on Saturday. Leading Flint Hill are Mickhaila Murray, Ryla Jones, Evie Huang, and Natalie Nguyen.

14. Northville

(Northville, Michigan)

Last week: 15

The defending Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 state runner-up last week beat Salem of Canton, 3-0. The Mustangs host Novi on Tuesday. Leading the way are Molly Reck, Avry Nelson, Ashlee Gnau, and Ella Craggs.

15. Immaculate Heart Academy

(Washington Township, New Jersey) (16-0)

Last week: 16

The top-ranked team in New Jersey last year went 5-0 last week and then swept Academy of the Holy Angels of Demarest, 2-0, to remain undefeated. The defending NJSIAA Non-Public A girls state champ has dropped only one set all season. The Blue Eagles play Verona and Northern Highlands of Allendale this week. Leading the way are Maddie Sandt, Rachel Paton, Emily Sabino, Abby Romero, Kalena Stavish, and Alessandra Nazor.

16. Mother McAuley

(Chicago, Illinois) (21-4)

Last week: 20

The defending Class 4A state champ Mighty Macs bounced back from a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Assumption (Louisville) by going 5-0 to win the Asics Challenge. At Asics, the Macs avenged an earlier loss to Marist with a 2-1 victory and then recorded a 2-1 win against Divine Savior Holy Angels (Milwaukee) and a 2-0 triumph against Notre Dame Academy (Ky.) in the final. Leading the way are senior outside hitter Ellie White, a Michigan commit, Ellery Rees, Samantha Falk, Peyton Heatherly, and Olivia Urbon.

17. Pope

(Marietta, Georgia)

(30-3)

Last week: 21

The defending Class 6A state champ Greyhounds last week went 4-0 with 2-0 sweeps of Greater Atlanta Christian of Norcross, White County of Cleveland, Oconee County of Watkinsville, and Norcross. Leading Pope are Fifi Harvey, Ellis Crawford, Dayla Ortiz, and Cooper Abney.

18. Prestonwood Christian Academy

(Plano, Texas)

(26-4)

Last week: 17

The Lions last week swept Parish Episcopal and Ursuline Academy of Dallas by 3-0 scores. They host Bishop Lynch on Thursday and Cathedral Catholic of San Diego on Friday. Last year, PCA went 40-1, winning the TAPPS Class 6A state title.

19. Punahou

(Honolulu, Hawaii)

Last week: 18

The longtime Hawaiian power last week extended its win streak to 21 matches by beating Damien and Mid-Pacific Institute by 3-0 scores. The Buff n’ Blue end their regular season on Thursday at Kamehameka (22-3) of Honolulu. Leading the way are Lulu Uluave, Kealoha Cox, Rella Binney, Cali-Jo Shigemasa, Reese Teves, and Haumea Marumoto.

20. Dripping Springs

(Dripping Springs, Texas)

Last week: 19

The Tigers last week swept Del Valle and Johnson of Buda by 3-0 scores. They play at Anderson on Tuesday and host Akins on Friday. Leading the way for the Tigers are Henley Anderson, Ashley Euston, Ella Kuhn, and Presley Alford.

21. Assumption

(Louisville, Kentucky)

Last week: 9

The Rockets last week edged Mother McAuley, 2-1, and then went 3-2 in the Asics Challenge in Chicago. They host Holy Cross and Mercy, a pair of Louisville schools, this week. Charlotte Moriarty, Bailey Blair, Kristen Simon, Emily Keiran, and Emilee Fuller lead Assumption.

22. Dike-New Hartford

(Dike, Iowa)

Last week: 22

The defending Class 2A state runner-up Wolverines swept Denver (Iowa), 2-0, last week. They host Jesup on Tuesday.

Lake Catholic

(Mentor, Ohio)

Last week: 23

The Cougars defeated Notre Dame-Cathedral of Chardon, 2-0, for their 16^thconsecutive sweep. The defending OHSAA Division III state champ hosts Walsh Jesuit of Cuyahoga Falls and Padua Franciscan of Parma this week. The Cougars are led by Katie Sowko, Ahnna Bergant, Julia Oster, and Hannah Pattie.

24. Valor Christian

(Highlands Ranch, Colorado)

13-0

Last week: 24

The Eagles last week won their 11^th and 12^th sweeps of the season, beating Regis Jesuit of Aurora, and Arvada West this week. They conclude the regular season on Tuesday against Columbine. Last year, the Eagles soared to a 29-0 record and the Class 5A state championship. Leading the way are Delaney Russell, Grace Langer, Bergen Waitman, Kaitlyn Lynch, and Chloe Elarton.

25. Carrollwood Day School

(Tampa, Florida)

(20-2)

Last week: 25

The Patriots last week blanked the Tampa Bay Heat, 3-0. Their only losses have come to Cornerstone Christian of San Antonio, and 16-time state champ Berkeley Prep of Tampa. Leading CDS are 6-foot-1 freshman outside hitter Lydia Chinchar, senior setter Naomi Chinchar, junior Libero Mattea Casale, and 6-2 junior middle blocker/outside hitter Sarah Dibbs-frantz.
