Marist girls cruise to GHSA AAAAAA state basketball championship

Eagles soar past North Forsyth behind 27 points from Katie Harpring

MACON, GEORGIA – The Marist girls basketball team capped a near perfect season, Thursday evening at the Macon Centerplex, when the War Eagles soared to a 67-48 victory over North Forsyth in the GHSA AAAAAA girls basketball state championship week.

Ironically, the War Eagles, who finished 30-1, spoiled North Forsyth's bid for a perfect season, as the Raiders finished 31-1.

Katie Harpring led Marist with a game-high 27 points and 8 rebounds.

Hanna Faklaris scored 16 points and Abby Lindsay added 13. Lindsay was instrumental in the victory as she hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help Marist pull away from a 16-16 first quarter tie and build a 32-23 halftime lead.

Marist shot a sensational 63% from the field and out-scored the Raiders 38-22 in the paint. The War Eagles also went 12-of-17 from the free throw line.

Gabbie Gliatta scored 16 points to lead North Forsyth and London Weaver netted 15.

Marist finished the 2023-24 season with a 30-1 record after routing Marist, 67-48, in the GHSL AAAAAA girls basketball state championship game.
