Jackson (Georgia) football coach resigns following incident with student
Jackson (Georgia) head football coach Chris Henderson resigned from his position, last week, less than one year after being named the Red Devils head coach. The resignation followed outcry from an alleged incident between Henderson and a Jackson student, which took place on January 23rd.
This news was first reported by the Jackson Progress-Argus.
According to the report, the Butts County Board of Education held an special meeting on January 26th to discuss the incident. At the meeting, the board accepted Henderson's resignation and then released the following statement.
“The District is aware of and shocked by the incident that occurred at Jackson High School on Jan. 23, 2024, involving a staff member and a student. While the District cannot comment on confidential personnel matters or any ongoing investigation, the District is committed to ensuring that all students have a safe environment where they can learn. The safety of our students and staff is and always will be our first priority.”
A video of the incident has apparently been circulated on social media, with comments showing a division between those who support Henderson while others are shocked by what appears to be a lack of respect on the part of a male student.
Henderson joined the Jackson staff since 2016 when he came on board as an assistant to former head coach Dary Myricks. In 2020, he left the school to become the defensive coordinator at Spalding High School, but returned to Jackson when he was named the Red Devils head coach prior to the 2023 season.
