Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Georgia High School Athlete of the Week for January 8-13, 2024 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday, January 21st at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Josiah Lawson, Tucker Boys Basketball

Lawson dropped 38 points in a triple overtime thriller versus Langston Hughes.

Ace Bailey, McEachern Boys Basketball

Bailey went off and dropped 31 points with 16 boards and hit the game-winner to cap off McEachern’s comeback win over Edmund North.

Samuel Thacker, Providence Christian Boys Basketball

Thacker balled out in the triple-overtime thriller. He finished with 37 points, eight blocks and five assists.

Javuan Pittard, Oglethorpe County Boys Basketball

Pittard flirted with a triple-double in a blowout win against Elbert County. He finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals.

Kennedy Ruzvidzo Jr., M.L.K. Boys Basketball

Ruzvidzo just set a new M.L.K. record with 48 points and hit a half-court buzzer beater for the win over Providence Christian.

Lawrence Sanford, Cherokee Boys Basketball

Sanford went off for a 40-point outburst and added six steals, five rebounds, and two assists in the win over North Cobb.

Nya Smith, Milton Girls Basketball

Smith was unstoppable in a win over South Forsyth. She finished with 35 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Sa’Mya Wyatt, St. Francis Girls Basketball

Wyatt dropped 32 points with 10 rebounds to lead her team past Galloway.

Ellie Southards, Rabun County Girls Basketball

Southards recorded yet another double-double, this time with 34 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Prince Avenue.

Jazmin Thorton, Carver Girls Basketball

Thorton dropped 31 points in a 98-37 win over Thomasville.

Kennedy Baker, Northwest Girls Basketball

Baker had both game-highs with 20 points and 15 rebounds in a rivalry match-up versus Coahulla.

Jared Walker, Ola Wrestling

Walker earned his 100th career victory as Ola became 5x Region Dual Champions.

Max Hennebaul, Archer Wrestling

Hennebaul secured his 100th career win and did so in style with a pin in the region championship.

Seth Daughtery, North Forsyth Wrestling

Daughtery won his region match-up by pin, pushing his season record to 36-1 with 31 pins.

Curtis Coleman, Southeast Bulloch Track and Field

Coleman turned on the jets and ran a PR of 6.50 in the 55m at the VA Showcase, which is the fastest of any runner in the state thus far.

Ben Markham, Decatur Track and Field

Markham ran a PR of 1:53.90 in the 800m at the Arkansas HS Invitational and came in first place.

Kenyah Conner, Woodward Academy Track and Field

Conner ran a PR of 1:13.80 in the 500m at the VA Showcase and now has the fastest time in the state in the 500m.

Caroline Hood, Pace Academy Track and Field

Hood made her presence known at the VA Showcase, she ran PRs in the 1600m, mile, 3000m, 3200m, and 2 mile. She now has the fastest times of any state participant in those races.
