Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Georgia High School Athlete of the Week for January 1-6, 2024 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote at the bottom of the page. Voting will conclude on Sunday, January 14th at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week's poll.

Here are this week's nominees:

Marcus Gillespie, Clark Central Boys Basketball

Gillespie balled out in the match-up versus Hart County, he finished with 27 points, five boards, four assists, and three blocks.

Lawrence Sanford, Cherokee Boys Basketball

Sanford was unstoppable in a win over Adairsville,. He finished with 40 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the double-double.

Derron Lindsey II, Mays Boys Basketball

Lindsey had a phenomenal scoring performance versus Chapel Hill. He scored 42 points and went 10-15 from beyond the arc.

Jayden Crawford, Cristo Rey Boys Basketball

Crawford became his school’s the first-ever 1,000-point scorer with his 28 point performance.

Andrew Lavigne, South Paulding Boys Basketball

Lavigne scored 30 points and made four threes in the win over Kennesaw Mountain.

Keenan Gray, McDonough Boys Basketball

Gray dropped 32 points, with six rebounds and three steals in a win over Stockbridge.

Connor Scott, Cambridge Boys Basketball

Scott was on fire from behind the arc, with six made threes and 30 points in a win against Greater Atlanta Christian.

Mason Smith, Madison County Boys Basketball

Smith had himself a great day. He scored 32 points in a win over East Hall. He also had eight rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists. His 32 points gave him 1,000 points for his career.

Dallas Russell, Jefferson Wrestling

Russell, the No. 1 ranked Georgia wrestler took out Wisconsin’s top-ranked Ian Crapp with a 8-1 decision to secure a Cheesehead 144-pound title.

Maddox Sisk, Paulding County Wrestling

Sisk went undefeated at region duals at 138-pounds, with three pins and a tech.

Seth Daugherty, North Forsyth Wrestling

Daugherty went 4-0 with four pins at the Mountain View Pre-dual tourney. He finished the regular season with a 35-1 record and 30 pins.

Joshua White, Bethlehem Christian Academy Wrestling

Nyles-Olufemi Stuart, Walton Track

Stuart set his new PR in the triple jump with a 45-foot, 8-inches jump which is also the best jump in the state thus far.

Aaron Guilaume, Woodward Academy Track and Field

Guilaume set a PR of 21.66 in the 200m and has the best 200m time in the state thus far.

Madeline Cooper, Drew Charter Track and Field

Cooper tore up the track with a 7.48 in the 60m which is the fastest 60m ran in indoor track this season in Georgia.

Madison Townsend, Westminster Track and Field

Townsend achieved her PR in the pole vault with a vault of 12-foot, 1.25-inches and also leads all other pole vaulters in the state.

Shy Foster, Lamar County Girls Basketball

Foster scored a game-high 27 points, while also hauling in seven boards, dishing out two assists, and getting three steals, and two blocks in a win over Upson Lee.

Marley Bell, Montgomery County Girls Basketball

Bell had a monster double-double in the win over Telfair County. She finished with 30 points and 20 rebounds while also adding four steals and three assists.

Ava Riley, Mays Girls Basketball

Riley scored half of Chapel Hill’s points. She went off for 31 points, eight assists, six boards and six steals.

Mekiah Evans, Mays Girls Basketball

Evans joined in on the fun in the blowout win over Mays. She finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks.

Tianna Thompson, Galloway Girls Basketball

Thompson went off for 38 points against a tough Winter Haven (FL) squad.

Tianna Rabsatt, Dacula Girls Basketball

Rabsatt asserted her dominance in an overtime win. She finished with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks to lead her team to its 11th win on the season.
