We’ve picked out eight freshmen boys basketball players in Georgia that have stood out this season

We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school boys basketball season here in Georgia and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in the Peach State as that’s been the case in the past many times over.

This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen boys basketball players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Georgia. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school boys basketball player in Georgia.

Here are the nominations: 

Tre Keith, G, Tri-Cities: The combo guard has shown his versatility all over the court this season. The freshman guard is averaging 22.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Keith scored a season-high 30 points in a 74-70 loss to Pebblebrook. 

Jaden Drake, G, Appling Christian Academy: This 2023-2024 season isn't the first varsity season for Drake, but for a freshman is putting up solid numbers. The third-year varsity guard is averaging 22.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game. 

Cameron Cannon, G, Lovett: Through 11 games so far for the Lions, Cannon has proven himself to becoming one of the top freshmen in Georgia. Cannon is averaging 17.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals a game. 

Tyler Sorrells, G, Commerce: Sorrells is another combo guard that's on this list and really made an impact at his school. The freshman through 16 games this season is averaging 13.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. 

Brock Bass Bonner, F, North Cobb Christian: At 6-foot-7, 210-pounds, Bass Bonner already looks like an upperclassman, but is just a ninth grader. The freshman has impressed many and is averaging 13.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. 

Eli Jenkins, G/F, Coastal HomeSchool: After averaging just a shade under 27 points per game last season as a eighth grader on junior varsity, Jenkins has emerged onto the scene as a standout freshman. Jenkins is averaging 13.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest. 

Morion Mcwhorter, C, Therrell: The 6-foot-5 freshman center has looked solid this season protecting the rim for the Panthers. Mcwhorter this 2023-2024 season is averaging a double-double, with 10.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.4 blocks a game. 

Reed Burrell, G/F, Rabun County: Whether Burrell plays in the backcourt or frontcourt, Burrell has shown the ability to standout. Burrell this winter is averaging 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
