Vote: Who was Georgia’s top freshman football player of 2023?

We give you 10 candidates to choose from

The 2023 high school football season is complete and we are going around the East Coast, reflecting on the last few months.

One of the big questions is what newcomers on the scene made the biggest impact to a football program or state even? That’s where freshman that saw extensive playing time come into the mix.

That’s why we ask the question: Who was the top freshman football player of 2023?

We will go state-by-state along the East Coast and once that voting is done, do a final poll including all the freshmen that won going head-to-head.

We’ve selected 10 worthy candidates and ask you the fan to vote for who you think topped them all.

Voting will end on January 13th, 2024.

Editor’s note: Our corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Here are the nominees:

Lyndon Worthy, QB, Worth County: Leading all freshmen quarterbacks when it came to yards, touchdowns and completions was Worthy. The signal caller completed 196-of-313 passes for 2,670 yards and 27 touchdowns.

JR Harris, QB, Central: The dual-threat quarterback was tremendous for Central in 2023. Harris completed 138-of-198 passes for 1,855 yards, 20 touchdowns and rushed for 529, seven scores.

Teddy Jarrard, QB, North Cobb Christian: The freshman quarterback had a solid first year under center for North Cobb Christian. Jarrard completed 153-of-260 passes for 2,065 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Jaxon Bone, RB/DB, The King’s Academy: Bone saw plenty of time at running back and cornerback for the Knights in 2023. The freshman rushed for 1,004 yards and scored 16 touchdowns and on defense made 18 tackles, two interceptions.

Marquis Fennell, RB, Valwood: Helping lead Valwood to a GIAA state championship, Fennell was an intricate piece to the puzzle. The running back rushed for 931 yards on 72 touches and scored 19 touchdowns. Also made 21 tackles on defense.

Deron Foster, RB, Valdosta: When you can see time at running back for the Wildcats, that says volumes. Foster was one of the top backs for Valdosta, rushing for 912 yards on 144 carries and scored 12 touchdowns.

Hudson Hill, WR, Prince Avenue Christian: One of Aaron Philo’s favorite targets to throw to was the freshman wide receiver. Hill hauled in 84 passes for 1,230 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.

Jaden Wuerth, DE, Aquinas: The freshman edge rusher was nearly unstoppable for opposing offensive tackles to stop. Wuerth finished 2023 with 139 tackles, 36 for a loss and 14 sacks.

Alex Scott, LB, Toombs County: Scott saw time at outside linebacker and strong safety, making the most out of his opportunities. The freshman made 96 tackles, 16 for loss, forced five fumbles and two sacks.

LaDamion Guyton, DE, Savannah Christian: The defensive end was a menace all season long for opposing teams. Guyton ended 2023 racking up 82 tackles, 19.5 went for a loss, 10 sacks, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
