Top 25 Georgia high school football rankings (9/12/2023)

There were several big match-ups in Week 4 of Georgia high school football, and the higher-ranked team came out victorious in all of them.

Colquitt County defeated Lee County, Milton defeated Roswell, Benedictine defeated Ware County, and Cedar Grove defeated Collins Hill.

The Top 7 remained the same in this week’s SBLive Sports Georgia Power 25, but there were several changes further down, including Milton, which made the biggest jump from 13 to 10. The biggest faller this week was Norcross, which fell five spots from No. 10 to No. 15 after narrowly escaping Archer.

Here’s the complete breakdown of our SBLive Sports Georgia Power 25 high school football rankings.

1. Buford

(3-0)

The Wolves were off this past Friday night after jumping out to an impressive 3-0 start. The Wolves, without question, remain ranked No. 1 in the state of Georgia.

2. Colquitt County

(4-0)

The Packers got their first real test of the 2023 season last Friday night, and they came away looking great, defeating a good Lee County team 37-20. With the win, they improve to 4-0 on the season and remain in the No. 2 spot in this week’s Power 25.

3. Mill Creek

(3-0)

The Hawks joined Buford as one of the teams to have a bye in Week 4 of the 2023 season. They are also 3-0 to start the season and will be back in action this Friday night against Cedar Grove.

4. Langston Hughes

(2-1)

The Panthers were also on a bye this past Friday night, and it gives them a chance to regroup after suffering a 30-27 loss the week prior to an out-of-state opponent. After sliding down one spot last week, they will remain at No. 4 this week.

5. Walton

(3-0)

The Raiders were back in action this past Friday night after a bye in Week 3, and they looked as dominant as ever. They crushed Pope 67-7 to improve to 3-0 on the season and will remain at No. 5 in this week’s rankings.

6. Carrollton

(3-1)

The Trojans have looked good ever since their Week 1 loss to Langston Hughes. They have won their past three games, including last Friday night’s 50-0 shutout over Villa Rica. The Trojans continue a trend of The Top 6 remaining the same after four weeks.

7. Westlake

(4-0)

The first change in this week’s Power 25 Top 10 comes at the No. 7 spot with the Lions leapfrogging Parkview. The Lions are 4-0 and already have a signature win, defeating Cedar Grove in Week 3. They followed that up with a 57-7 drubbing of Southwest Dekalb last Friday.

8. Parkview

(3-0)

The Panthers fall one spot in this week’s rankings after nearly losing to North Gwinnett last Friday. The Panthers were without five starters on defense and were facing their former head coach, Eric Godfree, who now coaches at North Gwinnett. Despite all of that, the Panthers did come out victorious and will only fall one spot to No. 8 in this week’s rankings.

9. Grayson

(3-1)

The Rams struggled early on the road last Friday night against Spartanburg (South Carolina), but they found a way to come out of it with a 20-19 victory to improve to 3-1 on the season. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a victory nonetheless. The Rams remain at No. 9.

10. Milton

(2-1)

A week off for the Eagles appeared to do them a lot of good. After struggling to start the season, the Eagles bounced back in a big way and dominated a red-hot Roswell squad, 34-14, to improve to 2-1 on the season. After scoring one of the more impressive Week 4 victories in the state, the Eagles move up three spots to No. 10 in this week’s Power 25.

11. Benedictine

(4-0)

The Cadets are far from one of the biggest programs in the state of Georgia, but they’re one of the best. Facing off against No. 12 Ware County last Friday night, the Cadets came out victorious, 31-24, to improve to 4-0 on the season. They remain at No. 11 in this week’s rankings. 

12. Gainesville

(4-0)

The Red Elephants looked good again in Week 4 and improved to 4-0 after taking down Clarke Central 24-7. They have yet to play a ranked team so far this season, and likely won’t with their schedule. With that said, they still move up two spots to No. 12 in this week’s rankings.

13. Ware County

(3-1)

The Gators made the trip to Savannah this past Friday and gave Benedictine all they could handle. They ultimately lost the game 31-24, but proved why they have been ranked in the Top 15 all season. They slide down just one spot to No. 13 in this week’s Power 25.

14. Cedar Grove

(2-2)

The Saints move up one spot in this week’s rankings after beating a solid Collins Hill team, 37-26, last Friday night. The win gets them back to .500 on the season, but their schedule doesn’t get any easier. They will now travel to face No. 3 Mill Creek this Friday night.

15. Norcross

(2-1)

The Blue Devils were off in Week 3 and the break didn’t appear to benefit them in any way. After losing to No. 3 Mill Creek in Week 2, the Blue Devils were very nearly beaten by Archer last Friday night. The Blue Devils survived and won the game, 25-21, but they slide down five spots to No. 15 in this week's rankings.

16. Creekside

(2-1)

After a rough showing against the No. 1 team in the country, the Seminoles received a much-needed week off in Week 4. They remain at No. 16 in this week’s rankings.

17. Lee County

(3-1)

After moving up to No. 17 in last week’s Power 25, the Trojans had an opportunity to make another major leap with a win against No. 2 Colquitt County. And while the Trojans kept it somewhat close, they ultimately lost the game, 37-20. They remain at No. 17 in this week’s Power 25.

18. Roswell

(3-0)

The Hornets found themselves in a very similar position to that of Lee County, which was looking to take a major leap forward in the rankings with a win against No. 10 Miton. Instead, it turned into a rout in favor of the Eagles, who dominated the Hornets, 34-14. They remain at No. 18 as a result.

19. Prince Avenue Christian

(4-0)

The Wolverines jump up one spot to No. 19 in this week’s rankings after improving to 4-0 on the season. They defeated Monroe Area comfortably, 45-17.

20. Collins Hill

(1-2)

The Eagles have been in all three games they have played this season, but don’t have a lot to show for it. Coming out a bye, the Eagles fell to No. 14 Cedar Grove, 37-26. They fall one spot to No. 20 in this week's rankings with both losses coming to Top 15 teams in the state of Georgia.

21. Thomas County Central

(3-0)

The Yellow Jackets moved up to No. 21 last week, and will remain at No. 21 this week after a bye. They will be back in action this Friday against Brooks County.

22. Calvary Day

(3-0)

Coming out of a bye, the Cavaliers looked sharp. They defeated Charlotte Christian, 41-10, to improve to 3-0 on the season. They remain at No. 22 in this week’s rankings.

23. Houston County

(4-0)

After a Week 2 scare against Perry, the Bears have rebounded in a big way. They dominated in Week 3, and followed that up with an impressive, 56-12, win over Locust Grove in Week 4. They move up one spot to No. 23 in this week’s rankings.

24. Marist

(3-1)

The War Eagles make their debut in the Power 25 this week after scoring a big overtime win against Woodward Academy, who was ranked last week. The only loss this season for the Eagles was a relatively close, 34-26, decision in Week 1 to No. 12 Gainesville.

25. Lowndes

The Vikings join the War Eagles as new members of the Power 25 after improving to 3-0 on the season. All three of their wins have come against out-of-state opponents, but that should change this Friday when they face East Coweta.
