BRUNSWICK, GEORGIA- One of the most notable NFL players to come out of the 912 area code is that of current Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay.

From 2006 to 2009, Slay donned the blue, yellow and white at Glynn County Stadium for Brunswick High School and had a storied prep football career. On Saturday afternoon, the football program honored Slay for his accomplishments on and off the field.

Brunswick High School presented Slay with his high school jersey No. 4 from when he played for the Pirates at the Big Play Slay Football Camp.

During his time at Brunswick, Slay was slated to be a wide receiver/running back as he put up big numbers on offense. In his junior season, Slay rushed for over 1,300 yards and scored 15 touchdowns and then as a senior coming off an ACL injury, went over 1,100 and 13 scores.

Slay also played basketball and competed in track and field for the Pirates. The multi-sport athlete coming out of high school was not a heavily recruited player attended Itawamba Community College before ending up in Starksville playing for Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs.

Playing for the Bulldogs for two seasons, Slay had fully converted to playing at the cornerback position and transitioned pretty nicely. In two seasons, Slay totaled 64 tackles, six interceptions and two touchdowns.

Declaring for the 2013 NFL Draft, Slay was the No. 36 pick overall out of the second round by the Detroit Lions and between two teams (currently plays for the Philadelphia Eagles) has made the Pro Bowl five times and notched 26 interceptions.
