SBLive’s Top 25 in Georgia high school baseball: There's a new 1-2 punch in North Oconee-Mount Paran

The two teams are on a combined 31-game win streak and leapfrog Buford atop the all-classification rankings.

North Oconee has won 23 straight and Mount Paran is riding an eight-game streak of its own.

Those two have done what no other team has done all season — move ahead of Buford in the SBLive Top 25.

1. North Oconee: 26-1

Last week: 2

With back-to-back sweeps over Jefferson and East Hall, North Oconee extended its win streak to 23 games and debuts at No. 1.

2. Mount Paran: 21-2

Last week: 3

Mount Paran has been on a roll. The Eagles are on an eight-game win streak and averaging 12 runs a game.

3. Buford: 21-5

Last week: 1

Buford has hit a rough patch. The Wolves have lost five of their last six games, including a series loss to region opponent Winder-Barrow.

4. Houston County: 20-4

Last week: 4

A sweep over region opponent Lee County extended Houston County’s win streak to seven games.

5. Parkview: 20-6

Last week: 6

Parkview remains one of the hottest teams in the state. The Panthers have won 14 of their last 15 games.

6. Pace Academy: 21-3

Last week: 10

Pace Academy had a great week, going 3-0 including a huge win over Lovett.

7. Wesleyan: 21-4

Last week: 11

Wesleyan’s sweep over Holy Innocents' improves its win streak to six games. The Wolves have won 15 of their last 16 games.

8. Benedictine: 22-4

Last week: 7

Benedictine lost to Fernandina Beach (Florida), the Cadets' first defeat in four interstate matchups.

9. Allatoona: 23-4

Last week: 5

Allatoona bounced back from losses to Lassiter and Kell with a 10-0 win over Osborne.

10. Lassiter: 19-8

Last week: 18

Lassiter went 3-0 last week to end its two-game losing skid. Lassiter had two big wins over Kennesaw Mountain and Allatoona.

11. Woodstock: 20-7

Last week: 14

Woodstock’s eight-game win streak came to an end in a loss to Etowah, but the Wolverines got the last laugh in winning the three-game series.

12. Marist: 20-7

Last week: 9

Marist went 2-1 last week. The War Eagles had two double-digit wins over Arabia Mountain and a tough one-run loss to St. Pius.

13. Etowah: 21-6

Last week: 8

Etowah is coming off a tough 1-2 series loss to region opponent Woodstock. The Eagles have another tough matchup coming up against Cherokee.

14. Loganville: 19-7

Last week: 13

Loganville has struggled of late but split a two-game series versus Walnut Grove.

15. Denmark: 20-7

Last week: 15

Denmark went 1-1 last week with a win over Lambert and a one-run loss to North Forsyth.

16. Pope: 20-7

Last week: 16

Pope went 2-1 last week, giving the Greyhounds 12 wins in their last 13 games.

17. Cartersville: 20-5

Last week: 21

Cartersville easily swept region opponent Cass to extend its first-place lead and push its region record to 11-1.

18. Cherokee: 19-8

Last week: 12

Cherokee is coming off a tough 1-2 series loss to Alpharetta and will prepare for another tough series against Etowah.

19. Lovett: 20-5

Last week: 17

Lovett started the week off with a loss to Pace Academy but rebounded with wins over Therrell and Decatur.

20. Savannah Christian: 21-5

Last week: 19

Savannah Christian went 3-0 last week with wins over Southeast Bulloch and Brunswick.

21. Pierce County: 20-2

Last week: 20

Pierce County swept Tattnall County, scoring 35 runs and allowing only three.

22. Pike County: 24-2

Last week: 22

Pike County swept Jackson to extend its win streak to 14 straight games.

23. Lowndes: 22-4

Last week: 23

Lowndes’ sweep of Tift County extended its win streak to 16 games.

24. North Hall: 23-4

Last week: unranked

North Hall climbs back into the top 25 after starting the season here. The reigning champs are on an 18-game win streak.

25. Winder-Barrow: 16-8

Last week: unranked

Winder-Barrow made its case to debut in the top 25 undeniable. The Bulldogs have won 13 of their last 15 games including a 2-1 series win over former No. 1 Buford.
