Nathaniel Blount, Brandon run over No. 6 Northwest Rankin 42-21 (photos)

BRANDON — Northwest Rankin came into Friday night's rivalry matchup with Brandon needing a win to stay unbeaten ahead of a winner-take-all game with Oak Grove for the Region 3-6A crown next week.
Brandon had other plans.

The Bulldogs got 117 rushing yards out of freshman tailback Nathaniel Blount and ran for 400 yards as a team in a stunning 42-21 win over the No. 6 Cougars. Brandon more than doubled the Cougars in time of possession, 32:42 to 15:18.
With the win, Brandon moved to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in Region 3-6A, putting them in a tie with Pearl for third place.
Northwest Rankin fell to 7-2 and 5-1 in the region, falling a game behind No. 1 Oak Grove in the standings headed into the season finale against the Warriors next in Flowood.
