FHSAA 1A Girls Basketball Semifinals: Graceville and Hawthorne reach FHSAA championship

Tigers and Hornets will clash for the state championship on Saturday

LAKELAND, FLORIDA – Forty-four was the lucky number for the girls basketball teams from Graveville and Hawthorne in the FHSAA 1A Girls Basketball state semifinals, at the RP Funding Center, as 44 was the exact number of points each team scored in advancing to match-up against each other in Saturday's 1A state title game.

Graceville defeated Ponce de Leon, 44-37, in the earlier game and Hawthorne followed with a narrow, 44-41, win over Wildwood.

Graceville got just enough separation to pull out the win with a 17-point fourth quarter. Briana Adams and Charity "Miah" Fountain each scored 12 points and Adams added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Aarshunni Curry and Nyomi Daniels added 8 points each and combined for 16 rebounds.

In a the loss, Ponce de Leon's Alexis Clark had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Later in the afternoon, Hawthorne outscored Wildwood 13-2 in the fourth quarter to come from eight points down to win. Wildwood led by as many as 12 points late in the third quarter before its offense went ice cold.

Dé Mya Adams led the charge for Hawthorne, scoring a game-high 18 points, while Jhalea Jackson had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lakijah Brown also contributed 7 assists.
