Lecanto's Jacob Coulson stepping down to accept assistant job at Georgetown (Texas)
Lecanto head coach Jacob Coulson will be stepping down to accept an assistant coaching job at Georgetown High School in Texas, he confirmed to SBLive Sports Florida Friday afternoon.
Citrus County Chronicle's Matt Pfiffner first reported Coulson stepping down at Lecanto via X, formerly known as Twitter.
Coulson, who is originally from the Lonestar State, said he is taking an assistant coaching job in Texas and it will be a substantial raise from his head coaching/teaching position at Lecanto High School.
He stated that financial raise was one of the several reasons why he would be leaving Lecanto for his home state.
"We really, really enjoyed our time here," Coulson said. "I'm very thank for principal Jason Koon. We loved the strong community support here is awesome. This isn't me being unhappy with Lecanto. This is saying hey, this is an opportunity I have and it's what I need to do for my family."
The Panthers went 5-5 last season in Coulson's lone season as the head man at Lecanto. Coulson took over from Chop Alexander, who was let go after the 2022 campaign. Alexander went 16-14 in his three seasons at the helm.
"We've got a great staff here," Coulson added. "I don't regret my time in Florida at all. Loved my time at Bloomingdale and at Lecanto. I think in Florida you get to coach a different, wide variety of kids because they're from everywhere. All different levels. I think that high school sports in the state of Texas is on a different level. It's not comparable. Not even close."
