Many around the Tampa Bay area knew what Marquez Valdes-Scantling was capable of well before he ever starred in the National Football League (NFL).

The former Lakewood High School product put his name in the Super Bowl record books for scoring, as Valdes-Scantling scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Valdes-Scantling played his high school ball at Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg for Cory Moore and was a speedster on the outside for the Spartans. In his senior season at Lakewood, Valdes-Scantling hauled in 50 passes for 800 yards and 14 touchdowns.

After his days in St. Petersburg, Florida, the wide receiver played collegiately at NC State and USF before getting drafted in the fifth round (No. 174) of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Valdes-Scantling becomes the first player ever from the University of South Florida to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl.
