Michael Penix Jr. opts out of Senior Bowl

Penix Jr., former Tampa Bay Tech/Pasco product, has decided to not play in today’s Senior Bowl

The NFL Senior Bowl gives players heading into the NFL Draft one last chance to showcase their talents in front of coaches, scouts with gear on.

Count former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. as one player that won’t be partaking in the game itself.

According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, Penix Jr. has decided to not play in today’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The quarterback is coming off his best season of his college career, in which Penix Jr. led the Huskies to the College Football national championship game, falling to Michigan.

Penix Jr. isn’t the only player that’s deciding to not to play, as many see the game as a potential risk of getting injured derailing their NFL Draft stock. With the NFL Combine coming up, many partake in the Senior Bowl practices, but decide to not play in the game.

The southpaw started off his high school football career at Pasco High School in Dade City before leaving after his sophomore season for Tampa Bay Tech in Hillsborough County.

With the Titans, Penix Jr. flourished and between 2016-2017 threw for over 4,000 yards and 60-plus touchdowns before moving on to star collegiately at Indiana and Washington, respectively.
