Clearwater Central Catholic to face Venice in Week 9 of 2024 Florida high school football season

Both programs were state runner-ups the last two years in their respective Metro-Suburban classifications

A lot of marquee matchups for the upcoming 2024 Florida high school football season are being announced as schedules are being finalized.

Another must-see contest was announced on Wednesday afternoon and it will take place right out of Pinellas County.

Clearwater Central Catholic's head coach Chris Harvey announced via X, formerly known as Twitter, that his Marauders will face off with the 2023 Class 4S state runner-up Venice Indians will face off in Clearwater in Week 9. That date figures to be Oct. 18th, with the season starting the week of Aug. 23rd.

The Marauders have finished as the state runner-ups in Class 1M in back-to-back seasons under Harvey, who stated that CCC will face three former state champions in 2024.

Last season for CCC was a special one for the Marauders, finishing with a 13-1 record. Probably one of the most impressive wins of the 2023 season for the Marauders was the season-opening 21-14 victory over eventual Class 2M champion Berkeley Prep.

Harvey's bunch also knocked off teams like Class 1S state runner-up Trinity Catholic, Carrollwood Day, Cardinal Gibbons and Sebring.

The Marauders will be up against the 3-time state champion Indians, who looked to be reloading after having a similar fate like CCC the last two years and being runner-ups to Lakeland in Class 4S. Venice went 12-3 last season, notching solid victories over Clearwater Academy International, DeLand and Miami Northwestern on the road.
