THIS WEEK’S FLORIDA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES:

Editor’s Note: Our Athlete of the Week feature and corresponding poll is intended to be fun, and we do not set limits on how many times a fan can vote during the competition. However, we do not allow votes that are generated by script, macro or other automated means. Athletes that receive votes generated by script, macro or other automated means will be disqualified.

Here are the nominations:

Ty Townsend, Boys Basketball, Bradenton Christian: A quadruple double? Townsend nearly pulled off the rare feat in a win over Bayshore last week, scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals.

Ace Taylor, Boys Basketball, Calvary Christian: Maybe the performance of the week was had by Taylor in a 78-74 win over Seffner Christian. Taylor scored 46 points in the victory.

Marcus Green, Boys Basketball, American Collegiate Academy: Not to be outdone by Taylor, but Green had a big night himself. In a 63-52 win over Keswick Christian, Green scored 42 points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Darius Cunningham, Boys Basketball, Navarre: Though Cunningham and the Raiders were on the losing end of a 77-75 loss to Choctawhatchee, the senior had another monster game. Cunningham exploded for 40 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Landon Geren, Boys Basketball, Trail: The junior scored over half of the Bears’ points in a 49-43 win over Atlantic Coast, going for 25 in the victory. Not everyday someone accounts for over 50 percent of the team’s points.

Jamier Jones, Boys Basketball, Oak Ridge: The 6-foot-6 junior wing turned in another stellar performance with 27 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double to lead the Pioneers past Olympia 87-73 last week.

Mateo Medina, Boys Basketball, The Geneva School: Freshman sensation pumped in a career high 39 points to lead the Knights past Crooms Academy, 96-94, in a double overtime victory.

Calven Charles, Boys Basketball, Palmetto Ridge: Charles had a big night in a 55-53 win over Gulf Coast. The senior put up 27 points, more than half his team's total, as the Bears won the CCAC championship.

Santiago Henriquez, Boys Basketball, Miami Palmetto: The junior guard turned in a 27-point performance in a 68-56 win against Miami Northwestern, while also adding four assists and six steals.

Marcus Kelley Jr., Boys Basketball, Mariner: The senior point guard was extremely efficient in the Tritons’ 87-73 win over Sebring. Kelley Jr. went 10-of-12 shooting and scored 26 points, grabbing eight rebounds.

Jacob Daniels, Boys Basketball, Gibbs: Daniels was the catalyst in the Gladiators’ 72-62 victory over Gateway Charter in the Wally Keller Classic. The guard poured in 23 points against Griffins.

Peyton Hefflefinger, Girls Basketball, Barron Collier: Hefflefinger got hot from beyond the 3-point line last week. The guard knocked down seven 3-pointers on her way to 27 points in a win over Key West.

Arlinda Roundtree, Girls Basketball, Olympia: The star senior recorded an impressive double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds and added five assists, four steals and four blocked shots to lead the Titans past Lake Nona, 58-53 last week.

Jaida Civil, Girls Basketball, Palm Bay: The 6-foot junior guard notched 18 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals to lead the Palm Bay past Eau Gallie, in a 61-18 victory last week.

Samantha Brooks, Equestrian, Trinity Catholic: Not everyday we have an equestrian on our list, but Brooks needed to be recognized. Brooks received second place in Hunter Classic at the World Equestrian Center this past weekend.
