Leesburg (Florida) to face Gonzaga (DC) on the road in 2024
High school football teams all around the country are solidifying their schedules for the 2024 fall season and an interesting tilt was announced on Friday afternoon.
Leesburg High School's (Florida) football program announced that they will be traveling to Washington D.C. this upcoming season to take on the Gonzaga Eagles.
The Yellow Jackets, who have won three state championships in their program’s history, are coming off a renaissance year under the watch of former head coach Steven Moffett, who stepped down after the season to accept a co-head coaching role at The First Academy of Orlando.
Moffett led the team to a 10-2 record, good for the best finish since 1992 and leading the offense to the most points scored in program history.
Taking over the program is former Eustis head coach Frank Scott, who inherits a Yellow Jackets’ team looking to build atop of what they did in 2023. Scott will lead Leesburg up against a Gonzaga program that finished 6-5 last season.
The Eagles are no strangers to facing Florida-based teams as they welcomed Belen Jesuit into town in 2023, winning 42-9. Gonzaga will be playing in its 136th season of high school football when the 2024 campaign rolls around.
