Demario Jones steps down at Godby (Florida) to take job at Charlton County (Georgia)

Jones went 5-14 in two seasons with the Cougars

After two seasons as the head coach at Godby High School (Florida), Demario Jones is going to join a growing list of coaches leaving the Sunshine State for the Peach State.

Charlton County High School Athletics announced Tuesday evening that DeMario Jones had been approved by the Charlton County Board of Education as the next head football coach of the Indians.

The school features some popular alumni, including former NFL defensive back Champ Bailey, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in February of 2019.

Jones finished his tenure at Godby with an overall record of 5-14, with the team going 3-6 this past 2023 season. According to a report by Liam Rooney of the Tallahassee Democrat, Jones’ last day at Godby will be next week on December 19th. Per Rooney, John Holston has been named the interim head coach.

Charlton County is coming off a 2-8 campaign in which the Indians struggled out of the gates and could never recover. The Indians lost three games by one score and have gone through four losing seasons in the last decade.
