Lake Mary (Florida) survives Boone’s upset bid with a late rally

Top-seeded Lake Mary had its hands full from the start and trailed for most of the night, but behind sensational senior quarterback Noah Grubbs, the Rams rallied for 42-38 victory over Boone, in the opening round the Florida 4M state tournament, Friday

Grubbs tossed five touchdown passes, including three to Sam Johnson, and rushed for another TD.

Trailing by 10 with six minutes to play, Lake Mary (10-1) started its comeback with by blocking a 42-yard field goal attempt by Boone’s Blake Bolger. A flea flicker play advanced the Rams deep into Boone territory before Grubbs ran it into the end zone from 4-yards out, to pull Lake Mary within three.

The Lake Mary defense then forced a fumble to get the ball back to Grubbs and the offense, leading to a 14-yard TD toss from Grubbs to Carson Hinsaw to give the Rams their first lead of the night.

Sam Johnson tossed four touchdown passes to Isaiah Mizzell to lead Boone (4-6), while Daniel Smith rushed for a score for the Braves. Boone led 24-7 late in the first half and 38-28 with 8:43 to play in the fourth.
