Defenses continued to impress in Week 9 of the high school football season in Southwest Florida.

Now we want your help to determine who should be the SBLive Defensive Player of the Week for the area by voting in the poll below. Voting will remain open through Saturday and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.


Southwest Florida Defensive Player of the Week

Here are the nominees:

Kobey Babernitch, Island Coast: The two-way player intercepted a pass on defense and threw a touchdown on offense in a win over Gateway.

Ryder Brown, Community School: Scooped up a blocked field goal and returned it 82 yards to the end zone in a win over IMG Blue.

Justin Campbell, Gateway Charter: Forced a fumble and made six tackles in a 24-21 victory at Marathon.

Malachi Fils-Aime, Golden Gate: Returned an interception for a score and had six tackles in a big district win over Bonita Springs.

Luke Ghannam, Estero: Grabbed the game-clinching interception on the final minute of a 22-14 win over Mariner.

Marcus Kelley, Jr., Mariner: Tallied 13 tackles, two for loss, a sack, and two interceptions, returning one for a score, against Estero.

Collin Meagher, Canterbury: His 64-yard interception return TD helped the Cougars beat Aubrey Rogers.

Zach Molina, St. John Neumann: Came up with a pair of interceptions in a 44-12 win over Southwest Florida Christian.

Leroy Roker, Bishop Verot: Hauled in two interceptions as the Vikings beat Cardinal Mooney 50-14.

Madrid Tucker, Fort Myers: Intercepted a pass at the 2-yard line with 92 seconds left to secure a 51-48 win over Tampa Catholic .
