TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - The track to Tallahassee is upcoming for the Florida high school football state championships.

For the first time since the 2020 season, all of the state championship games will be held in state’s capital of Tallahassee.

In a press conference on Thursday morning, officials of Tallahassee, Florida, Leon County and the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) announced that Florida A&M’s Bragg Memorial Stadium will be the site of the 2023 state championship games, pending final approval of the Leon County Commissioner in October.

Bragg Memorial Stadium will be the host site for all classifications of the Class 4M-1M, 4S-1S and 1R from December 7-9 (Thursday-Saturday). Three games will be played on each day.

The last time the state championships were played in Tallahassee in 2020 was at Florida State University’s Doak Campbell Stadium in the pandemic season.

“I am so thrilled to share that the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has chosen Tallahassee and Leon County as the host location for the entirety of the prestigious 2023 FHSAA Florida football state championships, to be held right here at FAMU’s Bragg Memorial Stadium, on December 7th, 8th and 9th” said a spokesperson for Leon County Administrator Vince Long, in a press conference on the field at Bragg Memorial Stadium on Thursday.

Bragg Memorial has gone through $10-million worth of renovations that started in 2021. The home of the Rattlers was built in 1957 and was first renovated in 1983. Previous updates to the stadium were done in 2018, when AstroTurf and a new scoreboard were installed at the facilities.

“For our student athletes to have an opportunity to participate at such a prestigious university and such a great venue,” said Craig Damon, Executive Director of the FHSAA, during the announcement ceremonies. I want to thank FAMU for opening your doors to our student athletes and giving the opportunity to participate on this field. The experience of playing on a college facility, it’s a great experience. The deep tradition of athletics at FAMU and the academic tradition, I can’t think of a greater place to have our football finals this year.”
