Vote Now: Who should be SBLive’s North Suncoast Defensive Player of the Week (Sep. 4-8)?

Here are eight players for your voting consideration

High school football is back in the Sunshine State and so begins our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams started off the regular season with some great individual performances in Week 3.

As such, we have eight athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s North Suncoast Defensive Football Player of the Week award from September 4-8, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.

North Suncoast Defensive Player of the Week

Congratulations to last week's winner: Alex Lopez, DB, Gulf.

Here are this week's nominations:

Shawn Smith, DB, Cypress Creek: In the Coyotes' 48-26 win over Melbourne Central Catholic, Smith made eight tackles at defensive back. Also had 81 yards receiving on offense.

Chanze Holloman, DE, Fivay: The freshman defensive end was stellar in Fivay's 67-8 win over Anclote. Holloman had four tackles for loss, two sacks and a safety.

Antwon Brown, DB, Fivay: Another freshman standout for the Falcons was Brown, who notched five tackles, forced a fumble, returned one for a touchdown and picked off a pass.

Bryce Backus, DB, Mitchell: Literally, Backus could be a nomination every week for the Mustangs. Backus racked up 12 tackles and also had 84 yards receiving in the 54-19 win over River Ridge.

Aiden Holweski, DE, Gulf: The defensive end notched four tackles and two sacks in Gulf's 26-3 win over Wesley Chapel.

Marcus Coleman, DB, Gulf: Just a freshman starting for the Buccaneers, Coleman stepped up. The defensive back had an interception, pass deflection and a tackle for loss.

Derrick Chiarella, LB, Springstead: The linebacker last week on Monday returned an interception for a touchdown in the Eagles' 49-14 win over Citrus.

Trinity Hadsell, LB, Hudson: In the Cobras' 27-0 romp over Pasco, the middle linebacker had a big night, notching nine tackles and a fumble recovery in the win.
