Carter Smith rushes for six touchdowns; Bishop Verot (Florida) romps

Three-Star junior quarterback also throws for a TD as the Vikings snap Dunbar's 18-game winning streak against Lee County opponents

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA – In one of the most anticipated match-ups of the football season in Southwest Florida, Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith turned his team’s showdown with rival Dunbar into a 49-14 romp, Friday night.

The victory snapped Dunbar’s 18 game winning streak against Lee County opponents.

Smith did most of the romping, rushing for six touchdowns and, just for good measure, adding a touchdown pass in a dominant individual performance.

Smith sandwiched touchdown runs of 4- and 2-yards around a 7-yard touchdown run by Dunbar’s TJ Abrams to give a Bishop Verot a 14-7 lead after the opening quarter. In the second quarter, Smith again wrapped a pair of scoring runs around a Dunbar TD, to grow the lead to 28-14 at the half. The final TD of the second quarter was an electrifying 50-yard scamper by Smith.

Dunbar did not score in the second half, while Smith led the Vikings to end zone three more times. In the third quarter, he tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Turner and ran in a TD from seven yards. He then capped his big night with a 10-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to start a running clock.
