Vote Now: Who should be SBLive’s Northeast Florida Defensive Player of the Week (Aug. 31-Sept. 2)?

We’ve selected eight candidates to choose from this past week’s slate of games

High school football is back in the Sunshine State and so begins our Player of the Week polls for areas all around the state. Teams started off the regular season with some great individual performances in Week 2.

As such, we have seven athletes nominated this week for the SBLive’s Northeast Florida Defensive Football Player of the Week award from August 28-Sep. 2, and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 9 at 11:59 p.m. The winner will be announced in next week's poll.

Northeast Florida Defensive Player of the Week

Congratulations to last week's winner: Michael Matos, LB, Bartram Trail.

Here are this week's nominations:

Kayden Vimoktayon, CB, Creekside: The cornerback made sure it was a no fly zone in the Knights secondary, racking up two interceptions in the 51-23 win over Nease.

Cole Hash, LB, Matanzas: Hash made sure any ball carrier near him was going down. The linebacker notched 10 tackles and one for loss in the Pirates win over Tocoi Creek.

Micah Ragin, CB, Tocoi Creek: Though on the losing end of things, Ragin was a difference maker for Tocoi Creek. Ragin came up up with two interceptions in the team’s 20-14 loss to Mantanzas.

Jalen Scarver, DB, Englewood: Playing wherever is needed in the secondary, Scarver was the sure-handed tackler for Englewood in its 7-0 win over Menendez, making 11 tackles.

Kyle Boylston, DB, Trinity Christian Academy: The defensive back made four tackles and had an interception in the Conquerors 27-14 loss to Plantation American Heritage last week.

Nash Batrous, DB, West Nassau: In West Nassau’s thrilling 22-20 win over Carlton County (Georgia), Batrous finished with four tackles that all went for a loss.

Jackson Copeland, LB, Mandarin: The linebacker made plays on the defensive side of things to help lift Mandarin to a 42-35 win over Bolles. Copeland led the Mustangs with two sacks.

Troy Butler, DE, Ed White: In the Commanders’ 26-6 win over Sandelwood, Butler had a line of 13 tackles, threw for loss and two sacks.
