Chipley’s Bryson Howard is voted SBLive Florida Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to Bryson Howard, the winner of SBLive Florida's Athlete of Week award as voted by Florida high school sports fans.

Howard, a pitcher for Chipley, earned 55.09% of the 35,127 votes in a state-wide poll. Howard pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and allowed one run on six batters as Chipley won its first-ever state championship in Class 1A.

Here are all the other athletes that were nominated for May 15th-May 20th:

Carson Martin, Lakeland Christian, Baseball: The Vikings’ pitcher helped lead the way for Lakeland Christian in winning the Class 2A state championship. Martin went five innings, allowed four hits, allowed one earned run, striking out two.

Landen Maroudis, Clearwater Calvary Christian, Baseball: Warriors are state champions for the first time since 2019 and Maroudis was a big reason why. The right-hander went four innings, allowed three hits and no runs as Calvary Christian won the Class 3A state championship. 

Karson Lindsey, North Marion, Baseball: Lindsey was lights out in North Marion’s 5-0 win over Bishop Kenny for the Class 5A state championship. The senior pitched a complete game, no runs and just one hit. 

Seth Alford, St. Johns Country Day, Baseball: In a Class 2A state semifinal, Alford was solid at the plate. Alford notched three hits and drove in three runs.

Zoey Mills, Lemon Bay, Softball: Mills was excellent in the Manta Rays 1-0 extra innings win over Robinson to move into the Class 4A state semifinals. The pitcher went 10 innings, allowed no runs and fanned 12 batters. 

Addison Swink, Plant, Softball: Swink had three hits and scored twice in Plant’s 8-3 win over Windermere to move into the Class 7A state semifinals.

Morgan Talley, Clearwater Calvary Christian, Softball: The Warriors’ pitcher was stellar in a 3-0 win over Bishop Verot. Talley pitched a complete game, allowed no runs on three hits. 

Jayden Heavener, Pace, Softball: One of the country’s top pitchers was absolutely dominant against a good Hagerty team. Heavener went seven innings, two hits, one run and struck out 16 batters.

Chloe Gilday, Key West, Softball: Gilday pitched a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Plantation American Heritage to advance to the Class 4A state semifinals. 

Gabriella Mike, Lake Brantley, Softball: Mike was dominant in the Patriots 10-0 win over Spruce Creek to advance into the Class 7A state semifinals. Mike pitched five innings, allowed one hit and fanned five batters.

Isabella Vega, Parrish Community, Softball: The Bulls’ ace was on fire in a 2-0 win over North Fort Myers as she went seven innings, allowed one hit, striking out 14 batters. 

Jayda Smith, River Ridge, Softball: Smith was locked in when the Royal Knights defeated Auburndale 3-1 in a Class 4A region final. The pitcher pitched a complete game, allowed one run and fanned eight batters.

Morgan Davis, Deltona, Softball: Davis drove in three runs on three hits in Deltona’s 11-3 region final against Ridgeview.
