Alonso and Robinson finish as the state’s No. 1 and No. 2 teams

The girls flag football season in the Sunshine State concluded with the state semifinals/championships at Mandarin High School a couple weeks ago. Alonso and Robinson took one the Class 2A and 1A state crowns, respectively. 

Headlining the top of the rankings heading into region final play is No. 1, Alonso Ravens of Hillsborough County, and at No. 2 is Robinson. Both teams were slated all year long to be the favorites to win it all and it was an all-Tampa sweep of the state titles. There’s a slew of teams we looked at for our initial rankings and now we break out the final edition for 2023. Find the complete breakdown of the final 2023 SBLive Florida Girls Flag Football Power 25:

1. Alonso (23-0): The Ravens capped their magical season with a dominating 33-6 win over Fleming Island for the Class 2A crown. 

2. Robinson (21-2): The Knights ended their season with the Class 1A state championship victory over Choctawhatchee, 32-13. 

3. Lennard (17-4): The Longhorns may not have reached states, but realistically was the biggest threat to unseating the Ravens in 2A. 

4. Choctawhatchee (18-3): The Indians reached the Class 1A state championship game, but fell to Robinson 32-13. 

5. Miami Edison (18-2): The Red Raiders fell to Choctawhatchee in the state semifinals 20-13, falling short of reaching the Class 1A final. 

6. Fleming Island (16-1): The Golden Eagles upset Western in the Class 2A state semifinals before falling to Alonso in the state championship game. 

7. Western (16-2): The Wildcats were the favorites to meet Alonso in the Class 2A final, but fell against Fleming Island in the state semifinals round. 

8. Seminole Ridge (14-4): Reaching states as a No. 6 seed in the playoffs was impressive for the Hawks. They ended up losing to Alonso 19-0 in the state semifinal round. 

9. Spanish River (16-5): In one of the more entertaining region final matchups, the Sharks narrowly lost to Seminole Ridge 13-7. 

10. St. Thomas Aquinas (11-3): The Raiders lost in a shootout against Western 34-21 in the region finals. 

11. Spruce Creek (19-2): The Hawks fell short of reaching states when they fell to Fleming Island 19-13 in the region finals. 

12. Miami Killian (16-2): The Cougars were on a 6-game winning streak before losing to Edison 18-6 in the region finals. 

13. Stanton (17-3): The Blue Devils were winners of five in a row, before they ended up falling to Choctawhatchee 31-13 in the region finals. 

14. Steinbrenner (17-3): The Warriors' season is now officially over after their loss to Lennard.

15. Newsome (14-5): The Wolves' season is now officially over after their loss to Alonso.

16. Pembroke Pines Charter (13-4): The Jaguars' season is now officially over after their loss to Miami Killian.

17. Pace (15-5): The Patriots' season is now officially over after their loss to Fleming Island.

18. Wellington (13-2): The Wolverines' season is now officially over after their loss to Seminole Ridge. 

19. Winter Park (15-1): The Wildcats' season is now officially over after their loss to Pace. 

20. Palm Beach Gardens (12-6): The Gators' season is now officially over after their loss to Seminole Ridge.

21. Paxon (13-4): The Golden Eagles' season is now officially over after their loss to Choctawhatchee.

22. Park Vista (14-2): The Cobras' season is now officially over after their loss to Palm Beach Gardens.

23. Mainland (14-6): The Buccaneers reached the state semifinals of Class 1A, but couldn’t get by eventual champion Robinson, losing 32-7. 

24. Somerset Academy Canyons (13-5): The Cougars just missed out on playing in a state semifinal, losing to Mainland 7-0 in the region final round. 

25. Florida State High (13-5): The Seminoles' season is now officially over after their loss to Stanton.
