No. 1 Alonso defeated No. 5 Lennard 18-7 during the season; Mainland enters rankings this week

It’s high school football season once again in the Sunshine State! Nope, not that kind of football. Not yet anyways. Girls flag football season has gotten underway throughout the state of Florida and there’s plenty of solid games having already taken place heading into the state playoffs stage.

Headlining the top of the rankings heading into region final play is No. 1, Alonso Ravens of Hillsborough County, and at No. 2 is Robinson. Both teams are slated to be contenders for state championships in Class 2A/1A come mid-May and are coming off strong 2022 campaigns. There’s a slew of teams we looked at for our initial rankings and now we break out the playoff edition. Check out our ninth power rankings of the season and let us know what you think.

Find the complete breakdown of the SBLive Florida Girls Flag Football Power 25:

1. Alonso (20-0): The Ravens made it look easy against No. 5 Newsome in the regional semifinals and now have earned themselves a matchup against Lennard in the Class 2A, Region 2 final. Alonso beat Lennard 18-7 in the regular season

2. Robinson (18-2): With the Knights taking care of business against Gibbs, they will host Braden River on Monday night at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' indoor training facility for the regional final.

3. Miami Edison (17-1): The Red Raiders advanced on to the regional final after just getting by Miami Central 9-6. Now Miami Edison will face Miami Killian in the Class 1A, Region 4 final. 

4. Western (16-2): The Wildcats defeated very tough Dillard team in the regional semifinals 13-7 and now have set up an interesting Class 2A, Region 4 final versus St. Thomas Aquinas.

5. Lennard (17-3): The Longhorns needed every single point they could get in winning a wild 39-38 game against Steinbrenner. Lennard now faces Alonso in the region finals. This one will be interesting to say the least. 

6. Fleming Island (14-0): The Golden Eagles made easy work of No. 17 Pace in a 33-13 victory. Now Spruce Creek comes to visit on Monday night for the regional finals.

7. Spanish River (16-4): Moving up another spot this week, the Sharks remain the highest seed in Region 3 of Class 2A. The Sharks defeated a feisty Fort Pierce Central team 32-14 and now face off against Seminole Ridge. 

8. St. Thomas Aquinas (12-2): The Raiders knocked off a tough Cooper City team 25-12 in the region semifinals and now have a chance to book their ticket to states when they face No. 4 Western on Monday night. 

10. Spruce Creek (17-1): The Hawks ousted rival New Smyrna Beach out of the playoffs with a 21-7 victory. Now a meeting with No. 6 Fleming Island is on deck for Spruce Creek. 

11. Choctawhatchee (15-2): The Indians got by the Paxon School 19-12 in the region semifinals. Now Choctawhatchee will face Stanton in the region finals. 

12. Seminole Ridge (13-3): Being the No. 6 seed in the playoffs makes for plenty of tough matchups along the way. Seminole Ridge defeated Palm Beach Gardens 20-6 and now face No. 7 Spanish River in the region final. 

13. Miami Killian (16-1): The Cougars are on a 6-game winning streak and coming off one of the best wins yet, a 30-0 region semifinal victory over No. 16 Pembroke Pines Charter. Now they'll face No. 3 Miami Edison in the region finals. 

14. Stanton (17-2): Winners of five in a row, the Blue Devils are fresh off a 20-7 win over No. 23 Florida State High. Now No. 11 Choctawhatchee is next on the agenda and the Indians will be no easy task for Stanton in the region final. 

15. Steinbrenner (17-3): The Warriors' season is now officially over after their loss to Lennard.

16. Newsome (14-5): The Wolves' season is now officially over after their loss to Alonso.

16. Pembroke Pines Charter (13-4): The Jaguars' season is now officially over after their loss to Miami Killian.

17. Pace (15-5): The Patriots' season is now officially over after their loss to Fleming Island.

18. Wellington (13-2): The Wolverines' season is now officially over after their loss to Seminole Ridge.

19. Winter Park (15-1): The Wildcats' season is now officially over after their loss to Pace.

20. Palm Beach Gardens (12-6): The Gators' season is now officially over after their loss to Seminole Ridge.

21. Paxon (13-4): The Golden Eagles' season is now officially over after their loss to Choctawhatchee.

22. Park Vista (14-2): The Cobras' season is now officially over after their loss to Palm Beach Gardens.

23. Mainland (14-5): The Buccaneers make their way into the Power 25 rankings after a 35-14 rout of previous No. 25 Lincoln Park Academy. With the win, now Mainland takes on No. 8 seeded Somerset Academy Canyons in the Class 1A, Region 3 final. 

24. Florida State High (13-5): The Seminoles' season is now officially over after their loss to Stanton.

25. Ed White (17-2): The Commanders' season is now officially over after their loss to Florida State High.
