Watch: Tampa Bay Tech cruises past district foe Wharton highlights
TAMPA, FLORIDA- When the Tampa Bay Tech Titans lost in the Class 7A state championship game last year to St. Thomas Aquinas 42-14, the goal for the program since then is to find their way back.
The Titans last Friday made sure to send a message that they are the top team in Tampa this season with a 28-0 win over the Wharton Wildcats.
Leading the way for Tampa Bay Tech on the offensive end was running back Rod Gainey, who rushed for 193 yards on 13 attempts and scored one touchdown. Quarterback Xavione Washington also played well, completing 8-of-17 passes for 201 yards.
The win for the Titans was an important one when it comes to locking up the district championship in Class 3A-Metro, District 4. Tampa Bay’s win all but assured them winning a district crown. They can secure the title when they face Armwood on Oct. 28.
SBLive Sports Florida’s Andy Villamarzo spoke with Tampa Bay Tech head coach Jayson Roberts and Gainey about the Titans’ pivotal victory over Wharton.
