Ole Miss commit Jackson Ferris throws 1-hit shutout to lift IMG Academy over George Jenkins

Ferris, a 6-foot-4 left-hander, struck out 17

BRADENTON, Fla.- Ole Miss commit and potential first-round MLB draft pick Jackson Ferris threw a complete-game one-hit shutout to lift IMG Academy to a 5-0 victory over George Jenkins on Friday.

Ferris, a 6-foot-4 left-hander, struck out 17 to help IMG improve to 9-0 on the season.

Corban Little, who is committed to the University of South Florida, took the loss for the Eagles (7-2). He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned), four hits, three walks, while striking out six.

Ferris began his night with a clean first inning, facing four batters and striking out three.

In the bottom of the first inning, the host Ascenders got on the board on an RBI triple by Tayshaun Walton.

In the bottom of the second inning Little got into trouble, allowing a leadoff double and then hitting a batter. He got out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to prevent further damage.

In the bottom of the third inning, Ole Miss commit Nathan Fink increased the Ascenders' lead to 2-0 by roping an RBI double that scored Walton who had reached on a leadoff double.

In the fourth inning, Ferris struck out the side in order, which gave him 10 strikeouts at that point, including six consecutive.

In the top of the fifth inning, Ferris gave up his only hit of the night which was a leadoff infield single by CJ Hicks.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Ascenders pulled away as Miami outfielder commit Elijah Green led off the inning with a solo home run to dead center making it 3-0. Later in the inning, Chase Ingram added an RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. A couple of batters later, FIU commit Allan Gil squared up on an RBI single, scoring Ingram to make it 5-0.

Michigan State commit Caden Kok pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Eagles, getting a huge strikeout of Neal to end the fifth inning.

Ferris struck out six of the next seven Eagle hitters to finish the shutout. The 17 is a new career high.
