Caleb Smith, Class LL (Connecticut) state champion QB, commits to UConn

Keeping one of the state's best quarterbacks home was always the goal for the UConn Huskies.
On Monday afternoon, it would be mission accomplished for Jim Mora Jr. and his staff.
Staples senior quarterback Caleb Smith announced via X, formerly known as Twitter, that he would be committing to UConn. Smith led the Wreckers to the Class LL state championship, accounting for 47 total touchdowns for the Wreckers in 2023.
I am beyond blessed and excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Connecticut! I want to thank God, my family, coaches and teammates who have helped me in my journey! Go Huskies! @StaplesFootbal1 @UConnFootball pic.twitter.com/3Ss0TXvGwF

Smith received plenty of praise from those up in the New England region, including that of ESPN personality Dan Orlovsky, who also formerly played in the National Football League (NFL). The signal caller also had offers from Bryant (PWO) and Marist on the table.
The Staples senior signal caller had a season to remember for the 12-1 Wreckers en route to a LL state crown, with Smith completing 137-of-251 passes for 2,008 yards, 21 touchdowns through the air and on the ground, carrying the rock 222 times for 1,497 yards and 26 scores.
