Oakland beats Montgomery for second CIF State girls basketball state championship: Live update recap

Near triple double by Daijha Teague lifts Wildcats to 56-50 victory over first-timer Montgomery in 2024 California Division 5 girls basketball state championship game

SACRAMENTO — Daijha Teague had 15 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks leading Oakland to a 56-50 over Montgomery-San Diego Friday in the CIF Division 5 girls basketball championship at Golden 1 Center. 

Ojiubo Egeonu had 15 points and 17 rebounds for the Wildcats (23-10), who also won a D3 state title in 2019. 

Paula Zumstein had 21 points and 11 rebounds and Jordan Whitehead added 14 points for Montgomery (25-12), making their first state-finals appearance. 

Tyliana Velasquez let's loose with one of her 10 3-point tries and one of her four 3-point makes.

Oakland 45, Montgomery 38 (end of quarter): Egeonu has responded down low for the Wildcats. She's up to 12 points and 17 rebounds. Oakland eight minutes from second state title.

2ND QUARTER UPDATES 

Oakland 32, Montgomery 27 (halftime): Excellent, crisp play continues. Paula Zumstein leads all scorers for Montgomery with 12 points, but Teague on pace for triple double. She has eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Ojugo Egeonu has seven points and 10 rebounds. Tyliana Velasquez has team-high nine points. What a half. 

Oakland 28, Montgomery 20: The onslaught of scoring continues. Channeling the NBA, last night's Kings' 131-129 win over the Spurs. Bigs Paula Zumstein and Jordan Whitehead combined for 13 for Montgomery.

Oakland 22, Montgomery 16 (end of quarter): What a pace. What shooting. The best start to a 10 a.m. game I've ever witnessed. Daijha Teague is dynamic and she has six points, five rebounds and four assists, block and steal. Wow.
