CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoffs: Quarterfinal scores, stats (2/13/2024)

Mercy Miller scored 31 points to lead Notre Dame to the Division 1 semifinals Tuesday night

SHERMAN OAKS, CALIFORNIA - The Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks and Santa Margarita boys basketball teams could be looked at as 'leftovers'.

Notre Dame was snubbed from the CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs and Santa Margarita is the 'fourth team' out of the Trinity League that was on the Open watchlist all season.

The two faced off in the Division 1 quarterfinals where Mercy Miller scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Notre Dame to a 63-50 wire-to-wire victory over Santa Margarita Tuesday night to advance the Knights to the semifinals.

Notre Dame will host Redondo Union Friday night at 7 p.m.

Zach White pitched in 14 points and Caleb Ogbu added 10, including two 3-pointers.

The Knights have been getting quality, step-up minutes from junior Mark Lewis. The 6-foot-6 forward has been filling the gap for 6-foot-9 center Bronson Schmidt-Uili, who has not been with the team this postseason due to family matters that've taken him back to his home country of New Zealand.

Lewis has filled the void inside well. He had nine rebounds in Tuesday night's win.

"He knows his role. It's to play defense and rebound. He's also ready for opportunities when defenses crash on Mercy (Miller) and Lino (Mark). He's done a terrific job," Notre Dame coach Matt Sargeant said.
