Burbank's Odartey Blankson is SBLive Southern California Athlete of the Week (2/12/2024)

Junior guard goes for 30 points in big Burbank win over Hoover, then captures fan vote to earn weekly award

There wasn't much team success in Odartey Blankson's junior season at Burbank.

The Bulldogs finished just 6-22 overall and 2-12 in league play.

But in the team's second-last-to-game last week, Hoover pulled off a 66-64 win over a strong Hoover team, which at the time was 12-12.

Blankson erupted for 30 points and had seven rebounds in the win, which put him on an SBLive top performance list.

From there, Blankson earned 54 percent of the votes in a fans poll to earn the SBLive Southern California Athlete of the Week for games played Feb. 5-11.

For the season, Blankson, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 22.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. It was his third time with at least 30 points in a game, topped off with a career high 44 points in a 96-82 loss to Blair on Dec. 29.

He finished with 129 baskets in 270 attepts (48 percent), while making 97 of 127 free throws (76 percent).
