Reggie Morris Jr. talks Russell Westbrook in high school on CIF Southern Section Sitdown

Reggie Morris coached Russell Westbrook for all four years in high school at Leuzinger High; and talks about Westbrook's rise to being a national recruit as a senior

Redondo Union boys basketball coach Reggie Morris Jr. was the latest guest on the CIF Southern Section Sitdown, marking the 10th episode of the series.

Morris talks about the influence of his father, Reggie Morris Sr., who coached Los Angeles Manual Arts to a Division I CIF State championship in 1988. Reggie Jr. and Reggie Sr. are still the only father-son duo to ever win CIF State titles when Reggie Jr. led Redondo Union to a CIF State Division II crown in 2013.

On the show, Reggie talks about his experience as a college coach, with stints at local programs like Pepperdine and LMU. He also chats about the landscape of high school basketball and how basketball has changed in the City and Southern Sections.

However, his most compelling stories were about Russell Westbrook when he was at Leuzinger High. Morris Jr. was just 24 years old when he coached Westbrook.

"He was a freshman my first year, and he played frosh-soph," Morris Jr. said.

Westbrook, who has grown into a future Hall of Fame basketball player, and is now with the Los Angeles Clippers, was a late bloomer in high school. Eventually, Wesbrook blossomed into standout player his senior year before playing at UCLA.
