CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoffs: First-round scores, stats (2/7/2024)

Mercy Miller scored 32 points, including 10 points in overtime, to help No. 1 seeded Notre Dame advance in the D1 playoffs

No game epitomized the intensity of playoff basketball more than Notre Dame and Crean Lutheran in the opening round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Notre Dame, the No. 1 seed, edged the Saints 74-64 in overtime thanks to 32 points from Mercy Miller, including 10 in the overtime frame Wednesday night.

"I hate losing," Miller said on NFHS Network.

The Knights will take on Riverside Poly at home in the second round Friday night. Poly defeated Fairmont Prep 61-47.

Notre Dame was one of six Mission League teams that won its first-round playoff games. 

  • D1 - St. Francis beat Pacifica Christian, 45-39
  • D3A - Alemany beat Arlington, 66-51 
  • D2A - Chaminade beat San Dimas, 60-49 
  • D2AA - Loyola beat La Serna, 52-28
  • D2AA - Crespi beat Maranatha, 59-40

Divisions 1 through 5A started Wednesday. The Open Division begins Friday night.

DIVISION 1

Etiwanda 89, Village Christian 53: Christian Harris led the Eagles with 20 points. Etiwanda will play Rancho Verde in the second round.

Santa Margarita 72, Oxnard 55: Dallas Washington led with 22 points and Cameron McNamee added 16 in the win. The Eagles will play West Ranch Friday.

Foothill 59, Brentwood 45: Travis Paleo led the way with 25 points.

St. Francis 45, Pacifica Christian 39: Mazi Mosley scored 18 points to advance the Golden Knights to the second round to face No. 2-seeded Windward.

West Ranch 57, Edison 42: Tracy Bryden and James Evans each had 17 points.

St. Bernard 50, Mira Costa 48: St. Bernard will play at La Mirada in the second round. La Mirada had a first-round bye.

Canyon/Anaheim 61, Rancho Cucamonga 59: Canyon will take on Los Alamitos Friday on the road.

Crossroads 67, Rancho Christian 64: EJ Vernon led Crossroads with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Solo Bailey notched 18 points and 10 rebounds. Crossroads will play at Damien Friday.

Rancho Verde 66, Walnut 48

DIVISION 2AA

Campbell Hall 81, Simi Valley 53: Aaron Powell scored 26 points for the Vikings, who will take on Saugus Friday.

Rolling Hills Prep 73, Mayfair 62: Mateo Trujillo had 31 points. RHP will take on Oak Park Friday.

Crespi 59, Maranatha 40: Joe Sterling had 20 points and Peyton White had 17 in the win. The Celts will travel to Great Oak for round two.

Saugus 64 Valley Christian 52: Justin Perez and Peter Burton each had 20 points for the Centurions. Saugus will face Campbell Hall in the second round.

Oak Park 70, Diamond Bar 45: Sophomore Jadon Holmes had 21 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Thousand Oaks 66, ML King 51: Elias Chin had 25 points to become the program's all-time leading scorer at TOHS. The Lancers will play at Linfield Christian Friday.

Linfield Christian 62, Dana Hills 62: Collin Haugh had 30 points for LC.

Great Oak 60, Oakwood 52
