Winners of seven straight, 11 of 12 and and 18 of 20, the Modesto Christian (19-3) has moved into the top spot in SBLive's updated Sac-Joaquin Section high school boys basketball computer rankings.

The Crusaders, led by junior Gavin Sykes (21.3 points per game), Miles Jones (12.8) and Marcus Washington (10.4), are 9-0 in league play and ranked among the top 40 teams in the latest state human rankings.

After Modesto Christian, Capital Christian (18-7), Lincoln-Stockton (20-4), Jesuit (17-7) and St. Mary's (18-7) are among the top SJS teams according to the computer.

SBLive's computer rankings formula was created using its own linear algebra-based ranking algorithm inspired by the Colley Bias-Free Ranking Method. Colley’s Method was created by Wes Colley, Ph.D., an astrophysicist at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. He devised his algorithm in order to help address the subjectivity and controversy regarding BCS college football selections in the 1990s and early 2000s, using a method that used no subjective variables.
