Peyton Waters, Khmori House, Dermaricus Davis enter transfer portal as early 2024 Washington enrollees

Recent Southern California high school graduates announce that even with new Huskies' coaching staff in place, they'll keep their options open

The early freshman enrollee is faced with countless adjustments. A new home. A new school. Older classmates.

Before 2024 California football standouts, safety Peyton Waters (Birmingham), linebacker-defensive back Khmori House (St. John Bosco) or quarterback Dermaricus Davis (Etiwanda) can even get their footing at the University of Washington, all three might be on the move.

According to reports on Monday, each entered the transfer portal.

Longtime recruiting reporter Greg Biggins of 247 Sports reported that the trio, all early enrollees after graduating from high school in December, are considering their options, all in the aftermath of Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer leaving for the same post at Alabama.

DeBoer made that announcement on Jan. 13.

Two days after his exit, former Arizona coach Jedd Fisch was announced as Washington's new coach. The quick shuffle has understandably left the California trio nervous.

They aren't the only ones.

As of Monday, Waters, Davis and House are the first three early Washington enrollees to enter the portal, but, according to the Seattle Times, 20 others on the team have also entered.

"I just put my name in the transfer portal to see what all my options will be," Waters told 247Sports.

Waters starred as a cornerback and wide receiver at Birminham in the fall, when he caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading his team into the CIF State 3-AA championship game. He traveled with the Huskies to Houston for the College Football Playoff championship game.

He had 11 other offers before enrolling at Washington, taking other visits to Utah, Stanford, UCLA and Northwestern.

House, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker and strong safety, enrolled at Washington on Jan. 10, three days before DeBoer's announcement. House was a key cog on one of the nation's top 10 teams, ranking third with 72 tackles.

He also had 11 other offers and took visits to Washington and Texas. Auburn, Colorado, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State and Tennessee were among other offers.

Davis, a 6-5, 190-pounder, is a four-star prospect, ranked the No. 17 quarterback in the country by 247Sports. He enrolled to Washington also on Jan. 10 after throwing for more than 6,000 yards and 46 touchdowns over his last two high school seasons.

"I just want to test the waters and see where the best fit for me might be," Davis told Biggins. "Right now, I'm open to everyone."

Waters had a huge state championship game with eight catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns. He added six tackles on defense and had three kickoff returns for 100 yards, plus he punted twice for a 41.5-yard average.

Davis said that Arizona was one of his top three choices before choosing Washington so he may just stay put. "Washington is definitely an option for me and I'm still feeling out all the coaches," he said.

Davis had eight other offers other than Washington and took other visits to Arizona and Oregon State. He was committed to the Huskies since June 26 and signed his letter of intent on Dec. 20, before enrolling roughly 20 days later.

College football offers two transfer-portal windows, starting with Dec. 4 to Jan. 2. However if a head coach leaves a program, players are given an additional 30 days, so Washington players have until early Feb. to decide.

The second transfer-portal period is April 16 to April 30.
