Gavin Ripp led Archbishop Mitty with 24 points in their opening round victory

SAN DIEGO — Archbishop Mitty opened the 2023 Holiday Classic on Wednesday afternoon with a 43-38 victory over Santa Margarita to advance in the National Division bracket.

Senior forward Gavin Ripp led the way for the Monarchs, scoring nine of his team's 10 points in the opening quarter on the way to a game-high 24 points. The University of San Diego-signee did the majority his damage inside, scoring eight two-point baskets in the five-point victory.

The Monarchs took a one-point lead into the halftime break and held off the Eagles in a defensive battle.

Archbishop Mitty will take on the winner of Wednesday night's Montgomery/Waxahachie game while Santa Margarita will take on the loser on Thursday morning.
