Early National Signing Day in California: Where 4- and 5-star football recruits have committed to play

Twenty-eight of the 30 Golden State elite plan to sign Wednesday at well known destinations — but will there be some curveballs.

It's closing day. The speak between recruits and recruiters over the last 12 to 24 months is likely endless.

In California, there are exactly 30 football players who are ranked 4- or 5-stars by 247Sports. These are the elite kids, now stepping up to the next level. Of those 30, only three have been awarded the precious 5-star status. Two played on the same Mater Dei team that was crowned Monday SBLive's mythical national champion after going 13-1 and defeating Serra-San Mateo 35-0 in the CIF Open Division finals.

Of the 30, only two have yet to commit. So here are the 28 Golden State football players with elite status and where they plan to sign on Wednesday morning, the first of three days during the early National Signing Day process.

Of the 28, more than half are from four schools — Mater Dei (6) and three each from St. John Bosco, Sierra Canyon and Los Alamitos. With six commitments, Oregon is the school most targeted by the top recruits, while USC boasts five, followed by three each to Washington and Alabama.
