Southern California football roundup, scores: Banning runs its way to first-ever CIF State final

Banning attempted just one pass and ran all over La Jolla Country Day to win the 5A regional title

Banning came into the CIF State regional final with 2,276 yards passing from quarterback Robert Guerrero.

When the clock hit zeros Saturday night, Guerrero's numbers were unchanged.

The Pilots of the Los Angeles City Section defeated La Jolla Country Day 41-21 in the Division 5-A regional final with just one passing attempt at home to punch a ticket to the program's first CIF State final in program history.

Banning will take on Woodland Christian in the state championship next weekend. Woodland Chrisitan defeated Orland 28-0.

The location, time and day of the CIF State finals are not yet determined; however, the CIF State office announced the games will be on Dec. 8 and 9 at Saddleback College, El Camino College and Pasadena College.

The schedule will be released Sunday.

Guerrero's lone pass came in the final two minutes of the game. Banning also never punted the ball in what was a dominating performance.

Central Valley Chr. 55, Simi Valley 38 - 2A

Simi Valley's miraculous postseason run comes to an end. CVC's Bryson Donelson, a Fresno State commit, scored four touchdowns bringing his season total to 56.

Central Valley Christian will take on Los Gatos in the CIF State final. Los Gatos beat El Cerrito 14-6.

Mayfair 52, Mount Miguel 21 - 3A

Mayfair ran for 120 yards in the first half en route to a 35-21 halftime lead that including four rushing touchdowns. The Monsoons then pitched a defensive shutout in the second half to anchor the program's first CIF State title appearance.

The Monsoons will play Marin Catholic, 35-28 winners over McClymonds, in the CIF State final

Mission Oak 29, Rio Hondo Prep 14 - 4A

Rio Hondo Prep quarterback Alex Mustain threw two touchdowns in the loss, one to Tyler Dang and the other to Nate Curtis.

Mission Oak will play Palma in the CIF State final after defeating Hughson 31-21.

Sweetwater 47, St. Monica 27 - 6A

St. Monica quarterback Bradley Cassier scored four touchdowns in the losing effort, three passing and one rushing.

Cassier's effort wasn't enough to overcome the Sweetwater high-powered offense. Sweetwater will Play Colusa in the CIF State Division 6A final.

Bell Gardens 28, LA Jordan 8 - 7A

Bell Gardens will play Strathmore in the CIF State final. Strathmore defeated Lincoln 41-15
